For anyone dedicatedly following the entertainment industry in South Korea, one person who is very popular is rapper Kang Gary. The man who is also an entrepreneur, a record producer, and a songwriter became famous both in the Asian country and beyond as a member of the former hip-hop group, Leesang. Who is Kang Gary?

Getting to know him more than his music and what the screen offers, Gary was born Kang Hee-gun on February 24, 1978. While growing up, among the things he wanted to do was to become a teacher or a dancer. Even as there is not much that is known about his family, it is known that he was raised in South Korea. He said he went to school mostly to dance, but he still graduated from high school and moved to the Yong In University.

Before deciding to settle for music, Kang Gary trained as an amateur boxer even though he didn’t have it in his mind to make a career out of it. That said, he still spent as much as 10 years boxing. His name, Kung, which means dog is a name he took when he was still in High School. At the time, he also got involved in various dancing competitions.

Musical Career

The rapper who has become a symbol of sheer hard work and uncompromising dedication wanted to be a dancer before later switching to rap music as he grew older. He began as a hip-hop star with the group X-Teen, and together in 1998, they released an album. After falling out with the group, he joined the Honey Family and together, they released a couple of albums in 1999 and 2000. The next group that he would be a part of was Leessam Trio which later changed to Leesang after Diggity who was a member left Gary and Gil.

Just like the previous groups, this group also failed to stand for a long time, forcing Kang Gary to start his solo career in 2014. Thus far, he has released an EP, Mr. Gae in 2014 which was followed by an Album, 2002 in 2015.

Apart from the music, the rapper has likewise made a number of cameo appearances in a number of TV series such as Emergency Couple, and Films such as Wonderful Radio. His most significant TV appearance was on SBS’s Running Man which he had been a part of from 2010 to 2017.

His career has been highlighted with many awards and many more nominations. Among the awards he has won are Mnet Music Video Festival’s Hip-Hop Artist of the Year in 2002, Cyworld Digital Music Awards Best Collaboration of the Year in 2007, Mnet Asian Music Awards Hip-Hop Artist of the Year (2009), and 2014 Youku Night Awards Entertainment Spirit Award in 2015.

Is Kang Gary Married? – Wife/Girlfriend

Although he admitted in previous interviews that marriage comes with responsibilities which are obvious to him, he specified that he would rather put such responsibility into his music. This is one major reason why everyone was shocked that he has around to accept the responsibilities when he got married in 2017.

His marriage came very unexpectedly leaving many people shocked. He said the marriage which had no ceremony or anything was just in their expressions after his wife shook his soul. What makes it even more interesting and mysterious is that no one knew who the woman whom he described as a non-celebrity was.

For a while, many assumed the Running Man was scarce because of his marriage but the rapper revealed that it was actually to work more on his music.

He has a son who was born in November 2017. According to the rapper, with the birth of his son whom he takes care of, music is very hard. This is mostly because he was trying to do both at the same time. Having given birth to his son at the age of 39, he said that may be the reason why he is finding it hard as it might have been easier if the boy was born when he was much younger.
