Lindsay Mills quickly went from obscurity to fame as a result of her relationship with Edward Snowden, the former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee who in 2013 became popular for leaking classified information from the National Security Agency without the government’s authorization.

After the leak, the world became interested in people connected with Snowden and his girlfriend, Lindsay Mills was no exception. Edward has since been wanted for stealing government property and violating the Espionage Act of 1917. As a result, he had to flee the United States and now seeks temporary asylum in Russia.

Who is Lindsay Mills – Edward Snowden’s Girlfriend

Who exactly is Lindsay Mills? Americans began to ask immediately word got out that she was Edward Snowden’s Girlfriend. Before her boyfriend’s act of treason made her popular, Lindsay Mills was already some sort of minor celebrity. She is a performance artist, pole dancer, acrobat, and blogger.

It isn’t quite clear when Lindsay was born but considering the fact that she graduated from high school in 2003, estimations are that she could have been born in the mid-1980s. Mills is a native of Laurel and she attended Laurel High School in Maryland. Immediately after high school graduation, she proceeded to the Maryland Institute College of Art from where she would graduate in 2007.

It isn’t known to the media how Mills and Snowden met, but chances are that it could’ve been in Maryland – Snowden, a native of Elizabeth City North Carolina relocated with his family to Fort Meade, Maryland in the early 1990s when he was still in grade school.

Mills and Snowden began dating in 2009 and by 2012, they had relocated together to Oahu, an island in Hawaii. Snowden had just been offered a job there by the consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton, to work as a systems analyst for the National Security Agency’s Threat Operations Center.

The travel-lover, fun-loving, outgoing Mills was in no way idle in Hawaii as she became a member of the Waikiki Acrobatic Troupe where she was a part of a small group that met and performed once a month at a bar.

CIA Agents often struggle with the difficulty of hiding away information from their lover/spouse and obviously, Mills suffered the same in her relationship with her CIA employee boyfriend who didn’t disclose to her his intentions of leaking the government’s classified files to a group of journalists.

She only got to know of her boyfriend’s involvement with the leaks like the rest of – after he came forward. After Snowden’s confirmation as the source of the leak on Sunday, Mills on Monday took to her Lsjourney blog to post her feelings about Snowden’s revelation. In the blog post titled “Adventures of a world-traveling, pole-dancing superhero,” Mills hinted that she would be absent from the blog for some time. Part of the post read;

“As I type this on my tear-streaked keyboard I’m reflecting on all the faces that have graced my path…My world has opened and closed all at once.”

Th following day which was on a Tuesday, Mills deactivated the blog where she often posted photos of her adventures traveling the world and sometimes details about her relationship with Snowden whom she referred to as E on the blog.

When Mills asked Snowden about his travel to Hong Kong, weeks before the leak, he was vague with his explanation, saying he had to be away for a while.

After the leak, her father, Jonathan Mills, was and he had only nice things to say about his daughter’s boyfriend, describing him as “very nice. Shy, and reserved”.

Where is She Now?

Though Lindsay was apparently hurt by the news of her boyfriend’s involvement with the leak, it wasn’t enough reason to break their relationship.

They appear to be very much together we can tell from the photos of him she posts on social media. She dedicated a post to him on Valentine’s day of 2018.

Mills is still a resident of the United States, however, it appears she now spends most of her time with Snowden in Moscow.

Lindsay Mills was for the first time seen in public in 2015 at the Academy Awards. She went upstage along with filmmaker Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald to receive the Oscar for Best Documentary feature for Citizenfour, a documentary about Snowden and his decision to go ahead with the leak. She later took to her blog which she has since resumed writing to write about the experience.

Shailene Woodley portrayed her in the 2016 feature film, Snowden directed by Oliver Stone.
