Marie Harf has come a long way as a media personality. She is known for her work with Fox News and for serving the U.S Department of States. Being a public figure, Harf has had her share of controversies. For instance, she was criticized severely for her comments in 2015 during an interview on Hardball with Chris Mathews of MSNBC; this was after the Islamic State beheaded 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya. As it happened, Marie opined that America should create more job opportunities to dissuade Arabs from extremism. The TV personality was named Marie Elizabeth Harf by her parents – Jane Ax Harf and James E. Harf, who are natives of St. Louis, Missouri. Her date of birth was on the 15th of June 1981.

From what we gathered, Marie’s father works with the Center for Global Education at Maryville University. He also doubles as a Political Science professor at Ohio State University, Columbus. It is said that her mum is a clean energy enthusiast and is currently the Director of the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio.

Education and Career

Although she was born in Chicago Illinois, Marie was most likely raised in Granville, Ohio, as she was a student of Granville High School. Graduating in 1999, she moved on to Indiana University Bloomington. Marie Harf studied at the public research institution from 1999 to 2003 and graduated with honors, bagging a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government. Her concentrations were Jewish, Russian, and Eastern European Studies. She also has a Masters Degree in Foreign Affairs which she obtained from the University of Virginia.

Her first job was as a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Middle East Leadership Analyst. This lasted from March 2006 to June 2008 when she became the Media Spokesperson for CIA in Langley, Virginia. Harf’s next job came with the 2012 Presidential election of the United States. She served Obama for America, a political organization based in Chicago, Illinois as an Associate Policy Director for National Security.

After Obama was re-elected for his second term, Marie joined the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC as its Deputy Spokesperson. She served in that capacity from June 2013 to June 2015 before she became the Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications under Secretary Kerry. This saw her embark on various diplomatic trips overseas with Secretary Kerry, visiting 5 continents and more than 30 countries.

She left the Department of States in January 2017 and from September of that year, she began her stint as a Fellow in the Institute of Politics and Public Service at Georgetown University, Washington DC. This lasted for only 4 months.

It was in January of 2017 that Marie Harf started working for Fox News as a contributor. Sometime in May 2018, she became the co-host of a show (Benson & Harf) alongside Guy Benson. But then, Benson & Harf aired last in May 2019.

In addition to the foregoing, Marie has been the Executive Director of Serve America PAC since September 2019. Between June and September of the same year, she served Seth Moulton for America; first as its Deputy Campaign Manager for Communications and Policy and then, as the Campaign Manager. That’s not all, Marie Harf was once an Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. She reportedly co-taught a course at the private Ivy League university between January and May 2019.

Facts About Marie Harf’s Husband

Marie Harf got married in 2012 to Joshua Paul Lucas at a Vienna Presbyterian Church. As The New York Times reported, they were joined by Rev Erin E. Bair, an Anglican priest who happens to be a longtime friend of the couple.

As of when they became life partners, it was said that Joshua is completing his master’s degree in law and diplomacy at Tufts University. A graduate of Yale, Joshua is the son of Tricia H. Lucas and John E. Lucas. They are natives of Manchester, a city you will find along the Merrimack River of southern New Hampshire.

Even as it is difficult to tell what Marie Harf’s husband has been up to of late, it has been authenticated that his father is an attorney; he serves the State of New Hampshire’s Office of Legislative Services located in Concord.
