Scott Moir is a name that goes pari passu with Tessa Virtue. Both are Canadian ice skaters who have taken the world of ice skating by storm and have their names on the lips of millions worldwide and their nation Canada couldn’t be prouder. Since the ages of 9 and 7 respectively, Moir and Virtue have been figure skating together. They have enjoyed unprecedented levels of success together and are both the most decorated Canadian ice skaters and Olympic figure skaters of all time.

Scott Patrick Moir was born on the 2nd of September 1987 in London, Ontario, to a skating family. His parents are Joe Moir and Alma Moir (née MacCormack). Moir’s mother was a skater and now, alongside her twin sister Carol, coach youngsters at the Ilderton Skating Club. Both his brothers Danny and Charlie Moir, as well as cousins Sheri Moir and Cara Moir, are competitive skaters.

Scott Moir began ice skating from the age of three. He had initially dreamt of skating to become an ice hockey player, but along the line, he discovered he didn’t have the hands for hockey. In 1997, at the age of 9 years old, he was paired up by his aunty to dance with the 7-year-old Tessa Virtue.

The pair proved to be destined for each other and have lasted for two decades as partners, becoming the longest-standing ice dance team in Canadian history.

By the 2004/2005 season, they had moved to the senior level nationally, though they remained in the junior level internationally for a few more years. They enjoyed an incredibly successful junior career and are the most decorated junior-level Canadian ice dancers.

They made their Olympic debut at the 2010 Winter Olympics, winning their first Olympic gold to become the youngest debutants to snap gold. Following the 2014 Winter Olympics where they won two silver medals, the pair went on a break and returned in time for the 2016/2017 figure skating season which would become their first undefeated season since the start of their competitive careers. They crowned it off by winning two gold medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

As of 2017/18 season, the duo of Scott Moir alongside Tessa Virtue is an eight-time Canadian national champion, three-time world champion. They were inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in late 2018.

Making it more difficult to believe that the two aren’t an item is the fact that since their rise to fame, it has never come to light that either one is dating someone else. Their seemingly fictitious love story, like an intense romantic movie, makes for a great watch, and it is only better it stays that way.
