Shane West was born Shannon Bruce Snaith on June 10, 1978, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to parents Don Snaith and Leah Catherine (née Launey). His both parents despite being in varying professions shared a common passion for music and were in a punk rock band together. His mom was a lawyer and while his dad owned a drug store.

Shane is the first-born of his family and has two younger sisters. He is of Cajun French ancestry from his mother’s side and of Jamaican, British and Portuguese origin from his father’s side. His parents exposed him to the music of rock bands like Blondie, The Kinks, The Clash, Elvis Costello, and The Jam. As a result, Shane wanted from an early age to become a musician. However, things would later take a different turn as he drifted more towards acting after a friend encouraged him to take drama classes.

Shane then relocated to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to pursue an acting career. However, he didn’t immediately get his breakthrough until two years later. Like most burgeoning actors, West got his start in small roles in TV shows like Picket Fences, California Dreams, Boy Meets World, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and many others.

In 1999, West made his feature film debut in Liberty Heights. In the same year, West got the role of Eli Sammler in the ABC series Once and Again which would go on to become his breakout role. He established his presence with film appearances including A Walk To Remeber for which he won a Teen Choice Award and the box office hit The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).

In the small screen, West has had notable roles in ER, Nikita, and Salem. In addition to acting, he occasionally plays with the punk rock band Twilight Creeps.
