Although she was born Tina Blacker to her parents Sylvia Horn and Joseph Blacker on February 11, 1934, she came to be known as Tina Louise after her high school teacher gave her the name Louise as a middle name.
She returned to her pursuit of an acting career at the age of 17, by studying under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, but she still attended Miami University in Ohio as a fulfillment of her belief in the importance of formal education.
