You might easily recognize the name – Wendy Williams. The American television host has set herself apart as a fashion designer, former radio personality, actress, and author. She is best known for hosting the nationally syndicated talk show – The Wendy William Show, which has been on the air since July 14, 2008.

Prior to landing her own talk show, she was a radio show host and DJ in New York who quickly became known for her on-air quarrels with celebrities. She was soon branded a ‘shock jockette’ (the female version of Shock Jock) – a type of radio host of DJ who relies on shocking their audience with offensive or overexaggerated dramatic content as a means of entertainment.

Before landing her talk show, she starred in her own reality television show on VH1 – The Wendy Williams Experience which followed her life around her radio show. The show was shortlived and only ran for eight episodes.

In 2009, she was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. What many people don’t know about the star is that she is a New York Times best-selling author. She also has a fashion line, a wig line, and a jewellery collection. On her 50th birthday, the name of the street where she grew up was changed to the Wendy Williams Way.

Bio & Age

Wendy Joan Williams was born to Shirley and Thomas Williams on the 18th of July, 1964 in New Jersey. She was raised in the Wayside section of Ocean Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey, and is the second of three children.

Growing up she attended the Ocean Township High School and later the Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts where she graduated from in 1986 with a degree in Communications. While in school, she was the DJ for WRBB, the school’s radio station.

Career

Wendy began her career working at the WVIS radio station in the United States Virgin Islands. Shortly after, she relocated to Washington to work at WOL – this led to her commuting between New York and Washington DC. This became the beginning of a long and lustrous career for her.

During her time as a radio DJ, she had a lot of controversial years including her getting fired from Hot 97 in 1998. She has also stated that tried to get her fired from her job in the early nineties. She also had a highly publicized interview with where she questioned the musician about her spending and drug habits.

Wendy Williams is currently best known for her television show The Wendy Williams Show which debuted in 2008. The show was more successful than was expected and it introduced the genre ‘backtalk show’.

The show has an average of 2.4 million viewers a day and has received multiple award nominations including nominations for Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. The show which began in just four cities is now being shown internationally in over 54 countries. It has also been renewed till the 2019-20 television season, guaranteeing that Wendy Williams isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Wendy also appeared in Martin, One Life To Live, Drop Dead Diva, The Neighbors, Think Like A Man, Think Like A Man Too and Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates.

She has also produced several shows including Celebrities Undercover and the television film Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.

 

Wendy Williams – First Husband And Personal Life

Wendy Williams is currently married to her agent and manager – Kevin Hunter. The two are said to be Christians and they pray together before every one of her shows. Wendy and Kevin have been happily married for over two decades after tying the knot on the 30th of November, 1997. They also have a son together – Kevin Hunter Jr., who was born on the 18th of August, 2000.

Besides being her manager and agent, he also serves as an Executive Producer on her talk show, a position he has occupied since its premiere. Wendy is known to have remained fiercely loyal to her husband despite rumors of his cheating, infidelity and having an alleged mistress for over a decade.

However, this is not Wendy’s first marriage. The actress was previously married for a year from 1994 to 1995, although no one knows the true identity of her first spouse. In her biography, Wendy’s Got the Heat, she refers to her ex-husband as Robert Morris III, a name she adopted in order to be able to tell their story.

Not a lot is known about him except that he is American and was described by the talk show host as a salesperson. The couple dated from 1992 till 1994 before tying the knot, but they decided to call it quits on their marriage in 1995 when they got a divorce.
