There have been several movies produced by amazing directors, scriptwriters, and producers over the years, however, some stand out among the rest and eventually become a massive hits.
Whenever a list of such movies is created, it will not fail to have the epic historical movie, 300 in it. The movie, 300, was a replication of history as it creatively tells the Spartan story – which occurred in 480BC – where the Greek nation, Sparta, although small in size, confronted the powerful Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae.
The success of the original 300 movies not only surprised Hollywood but also its makers. Within 3 days of its release, it had amassed $70 million at the box office.
It was followed by its sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire which also was successful, and now questions are being asked if there would be a third 300 sequel. Let’s see what the producers of the series think about that possibility.
What is the next 300 movie all about?
The next 300 movie is based on Xerxes by Frank Miller where Screenplay is done by Zack Snyder Kurt Johnstad.
The Original 300 Movie – Is It Based On A Real Story?
The original 300 movie refers to the first installment of this Spartan series written by Frank Miller and adapted from his novel with the same title. The movie was directed by the American director, Zack Sydney, who also worked as its executive producer.
It was produced by Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann, and Jeffrey Silver. The movie was produced in 2006 but was released about a year later in the US on March 9, 2007.
It featured familiar Hollywood actors such as Lena Headey, David Wenham, Dominic West, and so on. It had brilliant visuals, apt delivery of roles, and characters played by seasoned actors, and above all, it was very entertaining and enlightening.
The movie chronicled a bloody war dubbed the Battle of Thermopylae which occurred between a small Spartan army (which totaled about 300 men) and the large Persian army.
Despite their number, the Greek army led by the Spartan king, Leonidas, had spirit and was resolute in their defiance of the Persian king, Xerxes.
Even though they lost their lives, their courage signaled the rest of the Greek city-states to unite against Persia. This historical story is what this movie is about, although it had certain alterations from the real story.
As mentioned earlier this movie was a huge success. It raked in $456.1 million at the box office from a budget of $65 million. The movie was also embraced by audiences globally with favorable reviews by critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, 300 made an impressive 89% on audience ratings.
Have There Been Any 300 Sequels?
The answer to this question is yes. After the success of the first installment of the Spartan series, the producers were encouraged to release another thriller which they did in 2014.
This sequel was also a prequel titled 300: Rise of An Empire. It is a prequel and a sequel because the events in this film occur before, during, and after the Battle of Thermopylae.
This sequel was directed by Noam Murro and starred the likes of, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, David Wenham, and Rodrigo Santoro. This particular film was based on Frank Miller’s sequel to his comic book 300 – Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander.
The movie was loosely based on the Battle of Artemisium and the Battle of Salamis. While the battle of Thermopylae was led by King Leonidas of Sparta, the battles in this film were led by Themistocles, a Greek General.
The sole aim of the battles was to keep the Persians from invading Greece. This sequel was not as successful at the box office as its predecessor, however, it managed to rake in $337.6 million. Its rating was also not better as it received an alarming 51% audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
Is 300 movie a true story?
The 300 movie is inspired from real Battle of Thermipylae and battle took place in 480 BC in ancient Greece.
Will There Be A Third 300 Sequel?
The answer to this question remains vague at this time. Ever since the release of the second installment – 300: Rise of the Empire, there have been rumors and speculations that a sequel to complete the series as a trilogy was on its way.
In 2014, Sullivan Stapleton, the protagonist of the second sequel spoke on how there was so much to tell of the battles of Greece and hoped that a third 300 sequel – to complete the Spartan trilogy – is created. This statement fueled the thirst of the audience for another movie in the franchise.
Also in 2016, producer and director, Zack Sydney spilled that he was looking for a way to create a more fascinating incarnation of 300 and had a variety of options at his disposal.
Despite all this smoke, nothing evident has been done yet. Fans are still expectant, hoping for a third sequel soon.
Will The Third 300 Sequel Be Based On The Same Story?
Considering the fact that the whole 300 franchise is based on a true story that occurred thousands of years ago, many would want to know if a third 300 sequel (if it is finally produced) will be based on a real story.
At the time of writing, no conclusion had been reached on whether or not the story would be based on true life experiences. It is however certain that the producers are keen to include the “Spartan soldier bravery” element in the third 300 sequels.
