Mimi Rogers is an American television, film actress and producer. She earned a well deserved Independent Spirit Awards nomination for Best Female Lead for her widely acclaimed performance in the 1991 film, The Rapture in which she played the role of Sharon, a swinger turned .

Rogers’ film roles include Someone to Watch Over Me which was released in 1987, Desperate Hours in 1990 and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery in 1997, among several others. She was once married to famous actor before they were divorced in 1990.

Miriam ‘Mimi’ Rogers (born Miriam Spickler) was born on January 27, 1956) in Coral Gables, Florida to drama major and former dancer mother, Kathy Talent and civil engineer father Philip Spickler.

Rogers’ family moved a lot while she was growing and at one point they lived in England, but they ultimately settled in Los Angeles, California where she was enrolled in accelerated schools and graduated at age 14 from high school.

She did not attend college, instead, she designed a study program that led her to become involved in writing and theater. She spent 6 years early in her career doing social work that involved counseling people with substance abuse problems and other groups of unstable people.

After her first marriage came to an end, Rogers moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in acting. This led her to study acting under Milton Katselas’ tutelage for months before seeking an agent. She began to appear on TV from the early 1980s. Some of her TV series appearances include Hill Street Blues in 1981, Magnum P.I. in 1982 and recurring appearances on The Rousters and Paper Dolls (playing Blair Harper-Fenton a gorgeous supermodel) between 1983 and 1984. She starred in Gung Ho alongside Michael Keating in 1986.

Rogers really came to limelight for a role as Claire Gregory in the 1987 movie Someone to Watch Over Me, which also starred Tom Berenger. Her character Claire Gregory was a socialite who witnessed a murder and required protection. She also starred as Hadley Elgin in The Mighty Quinn in 1989 and played the role of Nora Cornell in Desperate Hours in 1990.

1. Rogers is an avid poker player. She has played since her teenage years. In 2004, she participated in the World Poker No-Limit Texas hold ’em tournament in San Jose, California. She participated in the $1000 Ladies’ No-Limit Hold ’em World Series of Poker event. She sits on the World Poker Tour’s board of directors.

2. Rogers posed nude for the cover of Playboy magazine in 1993. This sparked rumors that this was an attempt to spite Tom Cruise with whom she had divorced less than three years before. She, however, insisted that Playboy magazine had been requesting it of her for years and she only obliged because they handed her total approval over the shoot.

3. She was raised with the doctrines and principles of Scientology as her father, Philip Spickler was an avid member of the Church of Scientology and a close friend to its founder. Rogers introduced but is now considered a former member herself, though she has yet to disclose her reasons for abandoning her belief.

 

4. Before becoming a professional actress, Rogers did serious social service work which involved counseling and catering to the needs of people with substances abuse issues and the mental health issues. She was at it for 6 years.
