Jennifer Salt – Bio

On September 4th in 1944, Jennifer Salt was born in the city of Los Angeles, California. She was born to screenwriter Waldo Salt (father) and her mother Mary Davenport, an actress. Jennifer grew up with a younger sister, Deborah, who joined the family in 1949. There is no record of an official marriage between her parents but Jennifer had poet, Eve Merriam, as a stepmother at some point in her life.

Jennifer Salt graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in New York City from where she furthered at Sarah Lawrence College. With her educational background secured, Salt dedicated her time to the entertainment industry.

Her minor role as a ‘Bird’ in the film Murder announced her to the acting world in 1968. She followed it up with The Wedding Party and Midnight Cowboy, both in 1969. The dawn of the 1970s saw the former actress take to stage acting and performed in productions like Watercolor (1970), and Father’s Day (1971). The latter earned her a Theater World award. Her other theatre works are Hasty Heart and Diplomacy.

Back to the small screen, Salt made a few more appearances in Hi, Mom! (1970), The Revolutionary (1970), Play It Again, Sam (1972), It’s My Turn (1980), after which she went on a permanent hiatus. However, her break did not affect her television appearances and screenwriting. In the film department, she takes credits for Tempo (2003) and Eat Pray Love (2010) as a writer.

For her television appearances, Jennifer Salt was first spotted on the set of The F.B.I in 1972, in one episode. All through the 1970s, she made one-episode appearances in series such as Love, American Style, Family, The Love Boat, and from 1977 to 1981, she was Eunice Tate in Soap, appearing in 63 episodes. In the 1980s, the actress graced the set of series like Magnum, P.I., It’s a Living, Family Ties, Murder, She Wrote, Duet and Bustin’ Loose. She took a bow from acting in 1990 after appearing in the series Empty Nest, The Marshall Chronicles and Lifestories.

After her retirement from acting, Jennifer Salt concentrated on a career behind the cameras. Her television writing credits can be traced to Sins of the City (1998), The Stalking of Laurie Show (2000), A Nero Wolfe Mystery (2002), Nip/Tuck (2003-2010) and since 2011, she has been working on American Horror Story with nine episodes credited to her.

Asides writing, she has also produced a few projects including the American drama series Nip/Tuck, The Quickening and American Horror Story.

Personal Life

It appears Jennifer Salt is not in any known relationship currently but before now, she was married to a man named David Greenberg but that was a long time ago. While it’s not known how they met or how long it took David to propose, the two got married on June 6, 1976. The marriage didn’t last long as they went their separate ways just two years after their marriage. Their divorce was finalized on February 15, 1980, but not without having an offspring, a son named Jonah Greenberg who works as a talent agent with CAA Beijing.

Since her first marriage ended, Jennifer Salt never got married again and has not made the headlines for any romantic involvement.
