Since the success of Iron Man in 2008, TV shows and films based on comic book characters have become quite popular, and between DC Universe and Marvel Studios, there hasn’t been a shortage of them. One of such TV shows is Arrow, a DC superhero series that airs on the CW network. When the show started, it was well-received by both fans and critics, pulling millions of views, and even though the reception has dropped a bit since then, it still remains one of the most popular shows on television. So, is the TV show over for good or is there going to be a spin-off of it? Find out here.
Is Arrow Over For Good?
Arrow started airing on the CW network in 2012 and it has become one of their highest-rated shows. The show stars as a billionaire young man named Oliver Queen – the titular hero (originally known as Green Arrow in the comic books it’s based on). Oliver’s life became changed on an island he was shipwrecked on for five years – the period in which everyone believed he had died until he came back to his home to become a vigilante with several skills to fight the increasing crimes in his city.
So far, the show has aired 160 episodes in its seven seasons and
the eighth season that is scheduled to begin airing on October 15, 2019, was announced in March 2019 by the executive producers of the series – Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz. It was also revealed by them that Arrow season 8 would be the end of the show, stating that the time has come for the long show to come to a natural end. More so, unlike the other seasons that had an average of 22 episodes on each, the 8th season only has 10 episodes.
The show’s star, Stephen Amell, also tweeted that playing Oliver Queen has been his greatest professional experience but as there is an end to everything, he can’t be a vigilante forever. He ended the tweet by saying thank you to all his fans and supporters who helped make the movie the success that it is.
At this point, we only hope that the final season will do justice to the multi-award-winning series and we are sure Arrow will definitely be missed. It is also known that apart from winning a number of awards for being outstanding, this DC show is notable for giving rise to the creation of a fictional multiverse known as Arrowverse where other DC shows are connected. However, as there is an end to everything, we cannot help but prepare for the inevitable and hope it ends on an acceptable note.
Is There Going To Be A Spin-Off Of Arrow?
The Arrowverse has seen some spin-offs while Arrow was on air like , , Legends Of Tomorrow, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, as well as the animated web show, Vixen which has each gone on to become big shows on their own. In addition to the aforementioned spin-offs, another one, Batwoman, starring is set to join the Arrowverse come October 6, 2019 – just days before the final season of the parent show is released.
Moreso, the network is plotting another spin-off that would succeed Arrow and this will focus on Green Arrow/The Canaries characters. The female-led show would star three women, , , and as Mia Smoak, Lauren Lance, and Dinah Drake respectively. One of the episodes of the upcoming season 8 of Arrow would serve as a backdoor pilot for the prospective show. This was included in the series to trigger the interest of fans who would be eager to see what would happen in the spin-off.
This spin-off of Arrow will be produced by Berlanti Productions, as well as Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers will include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama, who will also double as screenwriters, except for Berlanti and Schechter. It is also expected that this spin-off will do very well and win the hearts of not only fans of the Arrow TV series but critics as well.
