TNT’s Claws: 5 Facts About the TV Show
1. Nothing about the show is mellow
One of the key facts every fan of the TNT dramedy is sure to know is that in a rough economy, the five heroines of the series take the path of crime towards financial prosperity, however, they found themselves walking into a male-dominated world of crime as a result.
While they were there, they must outwit, outsmart and work their way up to build and control their own crime empire. For this, they must be tough, act street and play the game as ruthlessly as it demands. There are bold displays of violence, drugs, skin, and language and though a comedy with some color and vibrancy from the nail salon, there are scenes that are anything but endearing.
For anyone adverse to these sort of brazen scenes, this acts as a fair warning, otherwise, the nearly overriding theme of ‘wackiness, sleaziness, and flagrancy’ may just have helped it thus far.
2. It has an exciting cast ensemble
Sometimes the cast of a show helps make it what it is. If “Claws” is a must-see, its cast could be a big reason why.
The show stars from Scream Queens who plays Desna, the tough-talking, kind-hearted owner of Nail Artisans. plays Virginia Loc, a former stripper, and rebellious newcomer. Carrie Preston of The Good Wife is Polly Marks, former con artist and loyal to Desna. of Justified is Jennifer Husser, Desna’s longtime friend and right-hand woman, and from Devious Maids plays Annalise “Quiet Ann” Zayas, Nail Artisan’s doorman and Desna’s enforcer.
Also in the cast are from The Strain who plays Dwayne “Roller” Husser Desna’s boyfriend and drug dealer, and Dean Norris of Breaking Bad and Girlboss who plays Clay “Uncle Daddy” Husser, the ruthless head of the Husser crime family.
Other cast members include Kevin Rankin, Jason Antoon,, Jimmy Jean-Louis, and Suleka Matthew.
3. The brain behind the nails is a local star
Morgan Dixon may have stumbled upon overseeing the nail tech department of the show by chance but she was already something of a star. Dixon, who prefers to be modest about her talent and accomplishments runs a successful nail art business in New Orleans called M.A.D Nails (from her initials). Already well known there, she has been manicurist to famous personalities like and .
Dixon studied art and international relations at the University of North Florida and combined this with her talent for creativity and passion for business to venture into nail art.
Her memorable creations on the Claw‘s set are Uncle Daddy’s tribute nails which he wears to honor his dead wife in Season 2, Episode 1 and ‘s design he wears in episode six to mark the Russian control of the mafia. According to Nash, all of Dixon’s creations tell a story. They follow a character and represent a period in their journey.
