The brilliant actress Viola Davis was born on her grandmother’s farm in South Carolina in the United States of America on August 11, 1965. She belongs to the black ethnicity and holds an American nationality. She grew up with her parents and five other siblings in Central Falls in Rhode Island. Davis’s family was very poor and were burdened with serious financial constraints. Her mom Mary Alice worked as a maid and a factory worker while her dad Dav Davis was a horse trainer just to make ends meet.

However, Viola attended Central Falls High school where she participated in stage acting and other works of arts. After she graduated from high school, she joined the Young People’s School for Performing Arts in West Warwick after which she enrolled at Rhode Island College.

At Rhode Island College, Davis studied theatre arts and graduated in 1988. She further attended the Juilliard School for four years where she was part of the school’s drama club named ‘Group 22.’

Professional Career

After her graduation from Juilliard School, Viola started her acting career with a debut in a drama titled The Substance of Fire which was released in 1996. For her brilliant performance, she started getting guest spots in several reality television shows and films.

In 2000, she starred in as Nurse Lynnette Peeler in the movie titled City of Angels and the following year she made her first Broadway appearance in the play titled, King Hedley II where she co-starred alongside . The play, however, earned her a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.

After she got the award, her popularity began to increase as she caught the attention of many directors who wanted her to feature in their projects. The star actress has featured in several movies, reality television series and has won several awards, all thanks to her brilliant and excellent performances.
