Casey Neistat was born in Gales Ferry, Connecticut, USA, to parents Amy Neistat and Barry Neistat with Van Neistat, Dean Neistat, and Jordan Neistat as his siblings. Casey discovered his passion for filmmaking in his very early years but the road towards achieving his dream turned rough when he dropped out of school during his sophomore year at the age of 15. He never had the opportunity to return to school, instead, he picked up a job as a dishwasher in a seafood restaurant and as a short-order cook in Mystic. When he was 20, the YouTuber left Connecticut for New York city in the search of greener pastures. He had an apartment a few blocks away from the World Trade Center in the Tribeca neighborhood and got his first job in the city as a bike messenger.

In 2001, Neistat with his brother, Van Neistat, was hired by artist Tom Sachs to assist in films about the artist’s sculptures. This seemed like his first break into the filmmaking- a dream he had long wished to fulfil. Two years later, Neistat made his biggest breakthrough as his 3-minute short video movie namely, iPod’s Dirty Secret attracted many viewers. This made his first announcement to the YouTube world after his TV series The Neistat Brother with his brother, Van, which was later bought by the HBO in 2008. This short video on iPod also became controversial as it drew people’s attention to Apple’s policy on replacement of iPod batteries. In 2004, Casey worked with his brother Van to film the 15-minute science videos, which featured in Creative Mind’s 59th Minute video.

From 2010, Neistat began to put out more YouTube videos some of which include the one that criticized the MTA for its instruction on when to use New York City Subway emergency break cords. The video made it as one of Time magazines top ten most creative videos of 2011; it also included the video about the internet chat site Chatroulette; and his offering of two-dollar bills to his fans. From 2010 to 2017, he had gained over 7 million followers. By the end of 2017, Neistat turned to YouTube blogging full time and he is making his way as one of the top Vlogers of his time.

He made his first millions in 2008 when he sold his The Neistat Brothers show to the HBO. It was sold for $2 million dollars. He then began producing TV commercials for companies like Google, Nike and Mercedes-Benz, among many others. This eventually availed him the opportunity to advertise his new VR and Galaxy S7 product launch on Oscar.

Just as he discovered his passion for filmmaking at his early age, Casey’s love life also began from his early years. He had his first child, a son, Owen, at the young age of 17, with his then girlfriend Robin Harris. He, however, got married officially to his longtime girlfriend Candice Pool on December 29, 2013.

After having his first child, Casey eloped with Pool to New York City and got married to her for the first time in Houston, Texas in 2005. The marriage was shortlived and they went their separate ways. He proposed to her again in 2013 on a bridge in Amsterdam and they got married in Cape Town, South Africa, Pool’s home country. They now have two children, including Francine, Casey’s first daughter with Pool.
