Koine Iwasaki was born in Japan on June 26, 1997. Her family moved from her home country to Florida when she was only two years old. The language and cultural barrier was a lot for her and her older brother to acclimatize to, so their mother suggested that they pick up a hobby that didn’t require much speaking and they eventually settled on dancing. Since then, Koine has spent practically every day of her life engaged in some type of dance. After finishing high school, she attended the Somerset Academy Arts Conservatory. She has been training since she was a little girl and she grew to genuinely love dancing and aspired to build a career in it.
From the moment she began watching So You Think You Can Dance when she was 8, Koine nursed a strong desire to appear on the show. She spent her time training and waiting for the moment when she was old enough to be on the show. Her dreams came through when she auditioned at 19, wowing the judges with her abilities and making it into the house as part of the cast for the series. She starred in season 14 of the series and quickly became a fan favorite on the show. Unfortunately, Koine didn’t win, but she came in second place behind Lex Ishimoto.
The series helped to build her popularity and fame in the mainstream entertainment industry. Koine Iwasaki has gone on to perform as a backup dancer for the famous artist Maluma. She has also worked as a teacher with the Starmaker Dance Company, training other dancers.
