Ashley Young is a defender who plays soccer for the English premier league side, Manchester United as well as for the England senior team. While he sometimes plays as a wing-back, he also plays as a fullback. He met fame having moved to United in 2011, and since then, there is no slowing down for him.

Ashley Young Bio

The star defender was born Ashley Simon Young on 9 July 1985 in the non-metropolitan town of Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England. It was there that he was raised alongside his three brothers, on elder and two younger brothers.

He was born to a Jamaican father, Luther Young who is also a lover of football and a Jamaican mother, Sharon Young.

While growing up, Ashley was into playing football the same as his two younger brothers who are also footballers. One of his brothers, Lewis Young, has played for clubs like Watford, Burton Albion, Northampton Town, and as at mid-2018, he was with the Crawley Town. His other brother, Kylie Young who happens to be the youngest of the brothers was said to have played with the Arsenal youth club as far back as 2009.

For his education, the Manchester United star went to the John Henry Newman School. There, he continued playing the game he has always loved. What is very surprising is that it was here that he got to meet Lewis Hamilton who at the time played football with the Red Devils man. Formula One driver who had also considered playing football professionally said while he was bigger than Ashley Young, the English player was the better man when it came to skills.

Wife and Son

Ashely Young has grown up with only one woman in his life, Nicky Pike. The two have been dating since they were children, having met in school.

Having spent most of their lives together, it was rather very shocking that in 2011, the England full-back decided to call off his wedding to Nicky Pike only two days to the event which was scheduled to hold at the Grove Hotel in Watford.

Although shortly afterwards, Ashley Young was seen in Las Vegas with other women, he would still later end up marrying Nicky Pike at a private event in Buckinghamshire in 2015.

The two have two children together, a son Tyler Young who has also started his footballing career with Arsenal Academy and a daughter, Ellearna.

Club Football Career

Young began his youth career with Watford in 1995 and by 2003, he had already secured promotion to the senior team of the club which he played for until 2007, recording 19 goals even as a defender from his 98 caps for the club.

Following his move from the Hertfordshire club, he moved to Aston Villa until 2011 when he made a big move to Manchester United and by the end of the 2017/2018 season, he had already had 13 goals to his name and 150 games played.

More so, the end of the season saw him with previously won titles including the Premier League which he won in 2013, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield, and UEFA Europa League. He has also won the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2009 and made the PFA Team of the Year in 2008 and 2009.

National Football Career

Of course, the dream of any player apart from having a good club is to fly his national flag in major competitions. The first opportunity to fly the English national colours came to Ashley Young at the under-21 level in 2006.

After playing 10 games for the younger team, he gained the promotion to kick balls as a defender for the senior team in 2017. By the time the aggressive defender got the invite for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia which would be his first World Cup appearance, he had already played 33 games for the team, seeing the back of the net 7 times.

At the tournament in Russia, Young helped the Three Lions to end in the fourth place suffering two shocking defeats in the hands of Croatia and Belgium at the semi-finals and the third-place game. He made 5 appearances in the World Cup, offering an assist in the process.

 Height, Weight, and Body Measurements

One of the most intelligent and skillful defenders out there, Young may not be the biggest player on the field, but he still got the height and body he needs to protect his goal post. Rather slim and with an athletic build, he has a height of 5 feet 7 inches (1.75m) and a body weight of ‎143 lbs (64.8 kg)

That noted, his general body measurements are still unknown.
