Even though the majority of the people in Hollywood may not believe in the supernatural, it hasn’t stopped the biggest film industry in the world from profiting off the fantasy with shows like the long-running Supernatural on the CW network and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Netflix. The later, in particular, tapped into two major story types – the supernatural and coming-of-age story, which shouldn’t be surprising as the show was originally in development for the CW Network, widely known for its coming of age and supernatural shows like the recently finished Vampire Diaries.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was put in development by Warner Bros Television and Berlanti Productions in 2017. Both parties are already working together on shows like The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, and Titans. The show was initially intended to be set in the same world as , another story from Archie Comics – a comic book publisher which specializes in teenage stories. Sabrina is one of its lineup of teenage characters. The show, however, did not make it to the 2018-2019 television season lineup for the CW and it was announced that it would be moving to Netflix, a streaming service that has been acquiring content from all corners of the world. According to Warner Bros, the switch happened due to Netflix’s commitment to at least two seasons of the show. The second season has been confirmed for release by April 2019.

When Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was announced in May 2018, it drew applause and cheers from those who grew up and are still fans of the comic. For fans of Netflix (who isn’t?), it was a much-desired production of a major supernatural show by the streaming service. The show was released on the 28th of October 2018.

Plot

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina tells the tale of Sabrina, the half-witch daughter of a human mother and her wizard father, as she faces a looming decision as her 16th birthday approaches – to choose between the witch world of her family and the human world that consists of her friends and boyfriend. She does all this while she fights evil forces that threaten her, her loved ones and the general world of human beings.

The story has references to Riverdale, the young adult story airing on the CW. Both stories are set just a few miles away from each other and Ben Button, a recurring character on Riverdale makes a cameo on the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Cast & Characters

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina has many talented actors and actresses filling its ranks but the main cast members of the show are Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Richard Coyle, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, and Miranda Otto. Below are the characters they play.

Kiernan Shipka – Sabrina Spellman

, before she became Sabrina Spellman, was known as Sally Draper in the AMC drama, Mad Men. Her other notable appearances include a voice acting role as Jinora in the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel, The Legend of Korra, a guest appearance on Heroes, Family Guy and American Dad.

On Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, she plays the lead role as Sabrina, a sixteen-year-old girl trying to balance the duality of her life as a human and witch. At her young age, she is also forced to fight evil against forces threatening her, her friends and family.

Her role as Sabrina is her first lead role as an actress and she has received critical praise for her carriage on the show.

Ross Lynch – Harvey Kinkle

Every coming of age story always has a love interest and in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, that role is played by as Harvey Kinkle – the handsome boyfriend of Sabrina Spellman.

Harvey Kinkle, as played by Ross Lynch, is the son of a coal miner who is oblivious of the dark battles his lovely girlfriend is fighting to keep them together.

When he is not playing the dreamy boyfriend, Ross Lynch is a singer who is a member of two bands, R5 where he is the lead vocalist and The Driver Era where he makes up the second half of the duo. Before Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, he played Austin Moon in Girl Meets World.

Lucy Davis – Hilda Spellman

One of the two aunts of Sabrina Spellman, Hilda Spellman, is played by Lucy Davis. Like Sabrina and her father, she is a witch whose tender sense of humour is wrapped up in her motherly nature. She loves Sabrina and with her talent as a very skilled potion brewer, she seeks to protect Sabrina from evil.

Lucy Davis has built an impressive résumé over the years with credits in outstanding projects like the original British comedy, The Office and Wonder Woman. She has also been in notable television works like Family Guy, The Mentalist, Californication, Ugly Betty, NCIS, and a few others.

Chance Perdomo – Ambrose Spellman

Everyone has that cousin you love, the one who can be considered a friend. At least the majority of people do and so does Sabrina. Chance Perdomo of Midsomer Murders and Hetty Feather plays her pansexual cousin and partner in crime. Like Sabrina, Ambrose’s tendency to ignore the rules is a personality trait. On the show, he is on house arrest for attempted destruction of the Vatican.

Chance Pedromo previously auditioned for the role of Jughead on Riverdale, while he was not successful in acquiring the part, he impressed the creator of Riverdale (who is also the creator of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) so much that the role of Ambrose was created with him in mind.

Miranda Otto – Zelda Spellman

Sabrina has two aunts who love her and are very protective of her; Miranda Otto plays Zelda Spellman – the stricter and sterner of the two. She plays a good contrast to the warm personality of Sabrina’s other aunt, Hilda Spellman. Miranda Otto is one of the most experienced and decorated actors on the show, having featured in shows like Homeland, and in two of The Lord of the Rings trilogy as Eowyn.

Michelle Gomez – Mary Wardwell/Madam Satan

Michelle Gomez shows much talent in her role as Madam Satan who is grooming Sabrina to take her place as Satan’s foot soldier so that she can, in turn, ascend to become his queen.

Michelle Gomez plays dual characters, Mary Wardwell, who is Sabrina’s favourite teacher in her high school, Baxter High. She is killed by Madam Satan, who then impersonates her.

Before the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Michelle Gomez has had roles in film and television shows like Doctor Who, Gotham, The Wedding Video and a few others.

Richard Coyle – Father Faustus Blackwood

In the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Richard Coyle plays the highly revered position of The High Priest of the Church of Night. He is also the Dean of the Academy of the Unseen Arts.

Jaz Sinclair – Rosalind ‘Roz’ Walker

plays the charming role of Sabrina’s best friend, Rosalind. Rosalind’s personality, as portrayed by Jaz, is an outspoken young lady who would fit in any feminist rally. She is also the daughter of the Greendale minister.

Tati Gabrielle – Prudence Night

What is a young adult story without the group of boys or girls who hate on the protagonist? Tati Gabrielle plays the time-tested role as head of the mean girls. However, on the show, they are not referred to as ‘mean girls’ but go by ‘the Weird Sisters.’

Tati is part of a group of young actors and actresses who dominate the cast of the show. Her other notable roles are The 100, The Emoji Movie and Freakish.

Other notable cast members and their characters are – Adeline Rudolph as Agatha, Bronson Pinchot as George Hawthorne, Peter Bundic as Carl Tapper, Ty Wood as Billy Marlin, Abigail Cowen as Dorcas, Alexis Denisof as Adam Marsters, fiancée of Mary Wardwell whose body has been taken over by Madam Satan.

The show also has a bunch of guest appearances from actors who appear in an episode or two. Some of the notable names are Brian Markinson, John Rubinstein, Megan Litch and a few others.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 Release Date
