It takes a lot for movie producers to be able to create sequels which will maintain the value, popularity, and success of their prequels. Most movies which are extended through sequels often lose the appeal that swayed the audience in their original installment – and this is the case of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Critics have pointed out that while the first installment in this series did well at the box office and with the ratings, the second installment was a disappointment; however, fans are expecting something thrilling from the yet to be released Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3.

This sequel was set to be released in November 2020 but has been pushed a year further by its distributors – Warner Brothers Inc. As usual, this sequel is expected to have remarkable visuals, intriguing scenery, and brilliant role delivery. The first installment or original part of the Fantastic Beasts franchise was produced and released in 2016. Written by J. K. Rowling, the movie was a spin-off and prequel of the famous which was directed by David Yates, a multiple award-winning director who directed the final four films in the Harry Potter series. He also has other amazing movies under his belt, hence the high expectations that came with the release of this movie.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was produced by David Heyman, J. K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram. The film featured the likes of Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, , Alison Sudol, , Samantha Morton, ,  and . The protagonist is Eddie Redmayne who portrayed the character of Newt Scamander, a wizard, and magizoologist. The movie is set in 1962, in a fictional era when magic was real in the Big Apple. Newt had successfully concluded a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures and decided to go to New York for a quick stopover. He never expected the adventure that would accompany his brief visit.

On this visit, Newt was able to unravel and solve a problem that was plaguing the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). He also helps them conceal their identity from the non-major non-wizards community of New York. The film was commercially successful at the box office on the average with sales of over $800 million. It has an impressive audience rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The second installment of this franchise was titled Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It was centered on more adventures of the magician Newt Scamander. In a joint effort with another wizard known as Albus Dumbledore, Newt tries to take down the evil villain and dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald. Gellert proves to be a vicious villain as his battle against his opposers claims the life of Leta Lestrange (played by ) because of the help she rendered to Newt and his fellows.

The movie was produced by the same producers as its prequel. In addition, the director and writer remain the same. It was officially released on 16 November 2018 and had some of the cast from the prequel with new additions which include Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, , and .

Unfortunately, it wasn’t better than its predecessor commercially as it recorded a box office sales of $653.8 million. Its ratings were also poor. On Rotten Tomatoes, it was rated at 56%. Finally, it is interesting to know that this series was the 9th overall on the Wizarding World franchise under the Warner Brothers Productions.

Plot

As expected, the plot of this movie has not been revealed in order to keep the audience in suspense. However, there has been a lot of spoilers making the rounds online. For one, the movie is presumed to be set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the 1930s. It is also expected that there will be some scenes in Austria and Italy. The series of events is not known for now and has not been revealed by either the crew or cast. However, it is believed that the film will continue the story of Newt Scamander, Grindelwald, and Credence.

Cast

Like the second installment, the cast is expected to include regulars and new additions. It is likely that it will feature Johnny Depp, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie and other minor characters such as Brontis Jodorowsky and Callum Turner.

Release Date

Initially, the production company and distributors of this franchise, Warner Bros revealed that this sequel would be released on November 20, 2020. This would follow the pattern already laid from the previous releases: November 2016 and November 2018, respectively. However, it was shifted to November 2021. This was to enable the production crew to properly wrap up all aspects of the movie. Therefore, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 3 is expected to hit the cinemas on November 12, 2021.

Budget

Every cinematic production requires adequate prepping to ensure it becomes a success. This prepping also includes budgeting. While Fantastic Beasts 1 had a budget of between $175–$200 million, the second sequel was created with a budget of $200 million. The third’s budget, however, is unknown at this time.
