Guccio Gucci was a well-known fashion designer from Florence, Italy, and the creator of the ‘Gucci’ fashion house. His father worked as a leatherworker in a small town. Career

Guccio Gucci worked as a lift boy at the Savoy Hotel in London as a teenager in the early 1900s. The stylish upper-class guests, as well as baggage firms like H.J. Cave & Sons, inspired him.

He returned to Florence after that and began creating travel bags and accessories. Moreover, in 1921, he launched the House of Gucci as a small family-owned leather saddlery firm in Florence.

Death and Legacy

Following his death, his sons took over the company, with Rodolfo in charge of operations in Milan, Vasco in charge of operations in Florence, and Aldo in charge of the overseas branch in New York.

Even after his demise, the brand he founded flourished and produced famous designs yearly. Moreover, Guccio’s sons altered the company’s logo to a double interlocked “G” that represents Guccio Gucci’s name.

In the 1980s, Rodolfo handed over the company’s administration to his son, Maurizio. As a result, Gucci transformed it into a public limited business.

Later, it had to be sold to Investcorp, an international investment firm that bought the majority of the company’s shares in 1993.
