For someone who retired from active politics as far back as the early 80s, Jimmy Carter’s age has been the subject of many speculations and questions making the rounds.

President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, are the founders of the popular non-profit organization known as Carter Center. Following his philanthropic works at the Carter Center, Jimmy was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. Find out Jimmy Carter’s age and a little something extra we added below.

What Is Jimmy Carter’s Age?

Born on October 1, 1924, he was christened James Earl Carter Jr. – after his father. Young Carter was raised alongside his three younger siblings – Gloria, Billy, and Ruth, in the U.S state of Georgia. His mother, Bessie Lilian Carter, was a nurse at the hospital where Jimmy was born. His father, on the other hand, was a successful businessman during his time owning a general store and invested heavily on farmlands.

Jimmy Carter was enrolled in the Plains High School in which he graduated in 1941. Shortly after leaving high school, Carter was admitted into the U.S Naval Academy where he bagged a degree which enabled him to join the U.S Navy. He is also believed to have attended the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The former Georgian state Congressman served in the United States Navy for almost two decades. He remained active in his service to his country from 1943 to 1953 before being placed on reserve in 1953. Carter was awarded many honors by the military for his exemplary service. He was awarded an American Campaign Medal, a World War II Medal, a China Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.

He left the U.S Navy shortly after the news of his father’s death to take over the day to day running of the family business. He was joined by his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who took accounting classes to keep up with the task of keeping the farm’s books. As expected, the business flourished into a successful one under their watch.

Carter first started as an activist under the Democratic Party before venturing into full-time politics. Following the dissolution of the County Unit System of Georgia in 1962, a seat was declared open in the state senate allowing Jimmy to run for election. He became a member of the Georgian State Senate in 1963 and went on to serve for two terms.

Jimmy Carter’s official inauguration as Governor of the U.S state of Georgia took place on January 12, 1971. He defeated the Republican candidate, Carl Sanders, to clinch the highest seat in the land. Carter succeeded President Gerald Ford as president of the United States of America on January 20, 1977, after narrowly winning the general elections.

The Georgian native rise from a local farmer to a state congressman and subsequently a state Governor is quite impressive for a man with relatively humble beginnings. According to official birth records, the longest-living U.S president will be clocking 95 by October 1, 2019. Since the world is not willing to part ways with this widely celebrated icon, he has received several wishes of health and more years going forward.
