Jeff Sessions is a politician and lawyer who served as the 84th Attorney General of the United States under US President, . He is a former Republican Senator from Alabama and a high profile lawyer who has been in the corridors of power for over four decades.
Jeff Sessions’ Bio
The Lawyer and politician was born in Selma, Alabama on December 24th, 1946 as Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III. He attended Wilcox County High School in Camden and later studied at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, graduating in 1969 with a B.A degree. He gained admission into the University of Alabama School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctor degree (J.D. or JD), also known as the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1973. In his early days, he was in the Young Republicans and later became president of his school’s student body.
Sessions served in the U.S Army Reserve after law school and performed outstandingly to reach the rank of captain. He commenced practising law in the city of Russellville then moved to Mobile before he climbed the political ladder and became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama during 1975 to 1977. Around 1981, he was also appointed by former President Ronald Reagan as the U.S. attorney representing the same district and served in that post till 1993.
He was a one-time nominee for a seat on the U.S. District Court in 1986 but his aspirations were thwarted by the Senate Judiciary Committee due to allegations that he made detrimental racial discriminatory utterances. However, in 1994, he was elected Attorney General of Alabama State and resumed office the next year. He launched into the big US political league in 1996 when he won a seat in the U.S Senate.
During his tenure as a Senator, Jeff Sessions was popular for his conservative ideology as he was critical about government spending, he endorsed the tax reductions implemented during former President George W. Bush’s tenure. He was strong opposition to former President Barack Obama’s agendas on immigration reform which include the issuance of citizenship to applicants who entered the United States, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Jeff’s opinion on social issues is no hidden fact as he outrightly condemned abortion and same-sex marriage.
Controversies
As a politician, Jeff Sessions has always been a Trump supporter which was evident in his speeches during President Trump’s presidential campaign. His nomination to serve as U.S. attorney general was proposed by President Trump in 2016.
Sometime in 2017, he came under FBI investigation for his alleged involvement with Russian officials on behalf of President Trump during the time of the presidential election campaign. Politics, as they say, is a power game, hence the Lawyer and Politician was said to have compelled President Trump to dismiss the FBI Director James Comey who was in charge of the case in a letter to the President seeking for the reconstruction of the FBI leadership. He later gave his statements denying any collision with Russia and called it inappropriate to drag the President into such allegations.
The Attorney General has also been linked to racially insensitive statements and was lambasted on social media for pretending to be anti-racist when he made an appearance with one of his grandchildren who is half Asian.

The Attorney General is the son of Jefferson Beauregard Sessions Jr. and Abbie Powe. He was the third person named Jefferson in his family which accounts to him being called Jefferson III. His father was a businessman who owned a store in Hybart, Alabama and dealt in farm machines. Their family is of English ancestry with a mixture of some Scots-Irish in their lineage.
Jeff Sessions is not gay. He is happily married to Mary Blackshear Sessions and the couple has three children together: Mary Abigail Reinhardt, Ruth Sessions Walk and Sam Sessions. Sam took after his father and built a career in Law. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law and graduated in 2010 with a degree in Law and is currently practicing in Birgminham. He is also said to have a B.A. in political science from Auburn University. Who knows? he might one day be a high profile politician like his father.
