Julie Chen is an American TV personality, producer and news anchor with CBS. She is well known for being both the moderator and host of CBS’ The Talk and also as the host of U.S version of the reality show Big Brother since it premiered in 2000.
Chen was also a co-host of CBS News’ weekday morning broadcast The Early Show. She also served as a Contributing Anchor of the show for almost two years. She worked as a journalist, covering many news stories for the show like the Iraqi war and the Kuwait/Qatar conflict.
She has also interviewed a handful of world’s notable leaders and celebrities like , former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, , , former Defense Secretary William Cohen, , Queen Rania of Jordan, and .
In 2017, Chen, for the first time, won an Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Hosts Daytime alongside , Sheryl Underwood and Sara Gilbert.

Julie Chen is the daughter of Chinese immigrants, (Wan Ling Chen and David Y Chen) born in Queens, New York City on January 6, 1970. She has two older sisters, Gladys and Victoria.
Chen was well schooled, she began her education at Junior High School Whitestone, Queens, before proceeding to St. Francis Preparatory School from where she graduated in 1987. She further graduated from the University of Southern California in 1991 with a B.A in broadcast journalism and English.
Julie revealed in an interview that she knew she would be a media personality right from the moment she saw an Asian by name Kaity Tong as news broadcaster on ABC. Back in the days, it was a big deal seeing an Asian as a news anchor and her mother pointed out to her that she can actually do that.
She puts it thus: “It was like she planted that seed and I watered it myself. From that point forward, I just didn’t know any other path.”
Career
She started off as an intern on CBS Morning News alongside Andy Cohen. As an intern on the network, she answered phones and copied faxes for distribution.
Still, as a student, Chen worked on ABC’s NewsOne for one season as a desk assistant. After doing a good job as a desk assistant, she was promoted to a producer and remained with ABC for the next three years.
In 1995, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she worked as a news anchor for WDTN-TV till 1997. While in Dayton, Chen underwent blepharoplasty – a surgical procedure which made her eyes appear larger.
From 1999 – to 2012, she anchored CBS’ Morning News, This Morning and The Early Show alongside Maggie Rodriguez, Bryant Gumbel, Rene Syler, Harry Smith, Jane Clayson, Erica Hill and Hannah Storm
Before anchoring CBS News, Chen worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at WCBS-TV in New York City. In 2000, she became the host of the American version of Big Brother.
Julie has also appeared as a guest on NCIS: Los Angeles episode In The Line of Duty, starring as her ambassador. She has also made appearances in the following movies: Madam Secretary, Jane the Virgin, The Comeback, The Fairly OddParents, The Millers and Life in Pieces.

Chen has been married to the president and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Television, Leslie Moonves since 2004.
The couple began dating while Leslie was still married to Nancy Wiesenfeld Moonves. Nancy filed for divorce in 2003, citing irreconcilable differences, after so much disagreement over their financial settlement, the couple finally went their separate ways in 2004.
On December 23, 2004, Chen and Moonves tied the knots in a ceremony at a private home in Acapulco, Mexico, attended by few friends and family. The couple welcomed their first child together Charlie Moonves on September 24, 2009.
Julie is also a mother to Leslie’s children from his previous marriage, they are – Adam Moonves, Michael Moonves and Sara Moonves.
