With this movie, Angelina Jolie returns to the big screen after a four-year break. She returns to reprise her role in the Maleficent second installment; Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. If you liked Maleficent first installment (released in 2014), then you are bound to love this new installment which gives a fresh and interesting twist to the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty story. Once again, the screenplay is developed by Linda Wolverton, but this time with help from Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster.

The first installment of the Maleficent movie was centered on Maleficent, the queen of the Moors. This movie tells us the story behind the Sleeping Beauty tale. Maleficent was the evil witch who cursed Princess Aurora but not because she was just being mean and wicked but because of the pain of betrayal she endured at the hands of the princess’s father. Like most fairy tales, this had a happy end when Maleficent realized that the key to peace between the two kingdoms rested in the hands of the princess.

Not an all-time favorite of the critics, however, it was a hugely successful film commercially. It grossed over $750 million at the box office and was also ranked as one of the highest-grossing movies of 2014. It is hoped that its sequel due to be released in 2019 will also be a hit. 1. All We Know About The Story

A lot has been deduced already from the trailer released by Disney on July 8, 2019. First, Angelina Jolie is back as the dark villain, Maleficent and it looks as if she has embraced her malicious and dark side again. Some reviewers have also deduced that Maleficent is displeased by the ill-treatment of moors by humans, under the rulership of King John and Queen Ingrith. It also seems the Evil Mistress seeks to redress this situation violently. This time, the real villain seems to be Queen Ingrith. She is troubled by the fear of the unknown and aggrieved by the death of her brother at the hands of the creatures.

Away from Maleficent, Princess Aurora and her prince charming, Phillip seems to get engaged in this sequel. They kicked it off in the prequel but didn’t quite seal it off. In the same vein of love stories, the role of Conall was played by Academy Award nominee as the possible love interest of Maleficent.

There are a couple of in this Maleficent sequel starting from the main character on which the movie is built. reprises her role as Maleficent, so does as Princess Aurora. The news that Jolie will be appearing on the sequel and taken up her former role was confirmed and announced in 2016. Some other stars confirmed to be returning are Juno Temple and who played the Fairy Godmother. Sam Riley as Diaval, as well as Imelda Staunton are also said to be returning.

Special huh? Formerly, the sequel to Maleficent was announced to be released on May 29, 2020, but was shifted 7 months earlier (maybe to commemorate this special date).

 

4. Marketing of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

In order to begin the marketing of this sequel before its release, Walt Disney released a teaser trailer on May 19 and an extended and official trailer on July 8, 2019. Additionally, they also released a behind the scenes recording where the cast talked about the sequel and the evolution of the characters in the movie as well as the moral changes they undergo. Lastly, a black and white sneak peek featuring Angelina Jolie and detailing the makeup transformation from Angelina to Maleficent. We do hope all the efforts to sell this movie even before its release will prove worthwhile.

5. 2019: A Year For Disney

The imminent release of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will mark the 14th movie released by Walt Disney in 2019 (they actually plan to release a whopping 19). Some of the 13 that had been previously released include Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Penguins, Avengers: Endgame, Tolkien, Dark Phoenix and several others which so far have been major box office hits. It is indeed a great year for Disney.
