Over the last decade, South Korea has continued to produce some of the hottest bands in Asia and one band that is making waves and getting all the attention in Asia and beyond is the pop group known as K.A.R.D. Like many K-pop bands in South Korea, where band members are briefly trained by the record label they are signed to for a while before finally merging together, KARD members are no different as they also followed through the same process. Since the band kicked off in 2016, they have continued to rock the world of many South Korean pop lovers.

KARD Members’ Profiles

The Asia Artist Award-winning band comprises of four talented singers – B.M, Jeon Ji-woo, Jeon So-min, and J.Seph. Here’s more information about them below.

B.M

B.M was born in the United States and he is the only band member with a United States nationality. His birth name is Matthew Kim, and B.M, which is the abbreviation of Big Matthew, is just his stage name.

B.M was born on October 20, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. Having been born in the United States, B.M is fluent in English; he also studied psychology at the California State Polytechnic University. B.M moved to his South Korea in 2011 and in 2012, he partook in the first season of K-pop Star and trained under DSP Media for about four and a half years before he was introduced to KARD.

Jeon Ji-woo

Jeon Ji-woo is the youngest member of KARD and she was born on October 4, 1996, in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Ji-woo has the most flexible body among all the band members and she is the group’s lead dancer. Jeon Ji-woo, who raps and sings as well, is a graduate of Chungdam High School.

Before joining DSP Media, Ji-woo was with FNC Entertainment, where she trained for two years. She then joined DSP in the year the KARD group was created; however, before her debut with the band, she underwent 2 months of training with DSP.

J.Seph

J.Seph was born in Chungju-si, South Korea on June 21, 1992, and is the oldest member of the K-pop band. At birth, J.Seph was named Kim Tae-Hyung. The singer, rapper and dancer has an older sister.

According to other members of KARD, J.Seph is the most hilarious member of the band and was picked by Ji-woo and So-min to be the member of the band who eats the most.

Even as a singer, J.seph has let his intentions known about venturing into acting. He is also a soccer fan and his favorite player is Portugal international player, . Before teaming up with his other band members, J.Seph trained under DSP Media for five years and was initially planned to form a hip-hop duo with B.M. He is most times regarded as the band’s leader because of the leadership skills he exhibits.

So-min

Born as Jeon So-min on August 22, 1996, in Seoul, South Korea, So-min is arguably the most experienced member of the band when it comes to involvement with other bands. She used to be a member of Puretty, a Japan-based all-girls K-pop band. The Puretty band members were together from 2012 to 2014. She later became the leader of another all-girls K-pop band called APRIL in 2015 but left the band later in the same year to join in KARD.

 

Facts And Everything You Need To Know About KARD Members

1. It would interest you to know that B.M is the tallest amongst the KARD members, he stands at 6’1”. Closest to his height is J.Seph who stands at 5’10”. Next is Jeon Ji-woo with 5’5” while Jeon So-min stands an inch shorter than Ji-woo.

2. The band was created in 2016 but they made their official debut with their EP Hola Hola which was released on July 19, 2017.

3. Each KARD member has a card name that perfectly represents each letter of the KARD group. B.M is King (K) while J.seph is Ace (A). Ji-woo and So-min is Colour JokeR (R) and Black JokeR (R), respectively and the last alphabet “D” is represented by “HiDden KARD” – the group’s fan club name!

4. Since the K-pop band came in with their hit debut EP Hola Hola which peaked at second place on the Korean Top 25 Billboard, the band released two more EPs and 8 singles between 2016 and 2019.
