Katherine Langford was born on the 29th of April 1996, in Perth, Australia. One of life’s interesting aspects is how parents could have children who choose a completely different lifestyle or career path. Such is the tale of Katherine Langford and her sister, Josephine Langford who chose careers in the arts as actresses while their parents are medical doctors.

Thankfully for Katherine, her parents were never hell-bent on having children who followed their own career paths. They, instead, supported Katherine’s desire to pursue the arts and enrolled her for voice lessons in 2005. Subsequently, Katherine received classical, contemporary and jazz vocal lessons.

She was then offered a place at her local school, the prestigious Perth Modern School where she studied music and drama. Katherine’s decision to pursue an acting career by applying to big acting schools was frustrated because she was considered too young and inexperienced. She compromised and settled for local acting classes in her hometown in Perth, Australia.

Though taking the acting classes required her to take on part-time jobs as a way to foot her bills, it all paid off for Katherine who got admitted into the Principal Academy of Dance & Theatre Arts. There, she starred in the school’s production of Godspell, making it her first play since appearing in her high school plays at Perth Modern School.

Her performance in Godspell impressed acting scouts who came to watch the play and she was offered a residency at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Like a cube of sugar that attracts ants, her Godspell performance opened the door to plenty of opportunities. Aside from her residency, Katherine Langford also trained at the Nicholson Academy of Screen Acting, playing the role of Juan Perón’s mistress in Evita, a 2015 play. The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, not looking to pass on the chance to take on the talented actress, offered her a position in their Bachelor of Arts program in acting. Katherine, however, declined, choosing to let go of the academic performance for more professional roles.

Her decision to pursue professional roles instead paid off even though she did have a rocky start in securing roles. She starred in a slew of small independent films in order to get her acting demo reel to producers and directors. In late 2016, her acting reel earned her an interview with the casting director of 13 Reasons Why who followed up her reel with a live audition on Skype.

Despite the controversial reception of the show’s plot, Katherine Langford has enjoyed critical acclaim for her performance on the show’s first and second season. She followed up her successful performance on the show with appearances in the films, The Misguided and Love, Simon. She’s set to appear in another Netflix show in 2019 and the Avengers Infinity War sequel.

Although a young actress with a short filmography, Katherine has been nominated for a couple of major awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
