English actress Kaya Scodelario launched her career in 2007 and quickly rose to recognition with her role as Effy on Skins, the E4 channel series that became famed for casting real-life teenagers with no prior acting experience. Scodelario became one of the breakout stars of the show and parlayed her experience into a successful film career. She is now best known for her roles in feature films. Some of her notable appearances have come in Wuthering Heights (2011), and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).

Kaya Scodelario’s Biography

Kaya Scodelario was born Kaya Rose Humphrey on 13 March 1992, in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England. Her father is British while her mom was a Brazilian immigrant to England. When her parents divorced at the time she was just two years old, Scodelario would spend the rest of his childhood growing up with her mother in London.

Growing up, Kaya learned to speak Portuguese. She would come to adopt her mother’s maiden name – Scodelario from her grandfather who was of Irish descent. As a teenager at the young age of 14, Kaya made up her mind to chase a career in acting. Luckily, her first try at an audition was successful. She successfully auditioned for the part of Effy Stonem on Skins, the series which sought young inexperienced actresses.

Kaya’s role involved only small speaking lines, however, by 2008 on the show’s second season, her character had developed into a series regular. The character became the only one to last from the first season to the fourth. Scodelario’s experience on the show helped boost her resume for future gigs. She began auditioning for film roles in 2009 and scored her debut in the science fiction-thriller film, Moon. Additionally, Kaya began a career in modelling and joined the elite agency Models 1.

Her subsequent films would come to include; Shank, the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans, an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Kaya is famed for her role as Teresa Agnes in the Maze Runner movies.

In addition to acting, Kaya Scodelario has appeared in many music videos by Plan B. Her first ever award, Ashland Independent Film Award was given to her for winning Best Acting Ensemble: Feature for the thriller drama The Truth About Emanuel for which she played the titular character. The film was her first American film.

Kaya Scodelario is married to American actor and stand-up comedian, Benjamin Walker. The couple met in April 2014 on the set of the film The King’s Daughter which was released in 2016. The film, formerly called The Moon and the Sun was not released in the United States. According to Scodelario, when she first met Ben on the movie set, they started out as just friends but grew closer as the production was wrapping up.

Both parties had just broken up from serious relationships with different people before their meeting. While Kaya broke things off with her boyfriend of 5-years, Elliott Tittensor, Ben had finalized his divorce from Mamie Gummer, the daughter of famous veteran actress whom he was with for about 5 years including two years of marriage.

However, Kaya and Ben’s relatively recent heartbreaks didn’t impede the speed of their romance. On December 28, 2014, Benjamin popped the question to Kaya and the two became engaged. In a social media post, Kaya revealed that she had her beau’s name “Ben” tattooed on her ring finger.

The couple remained engaged for a year before in December 2015. Ben, a Georgia native began his acting career in 2004 as a stand-up comedian shortly after graduating from New York’s Juilliard School. He began acting in the theater before transitioning to films. Some of his notable films include; Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Clint Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers and the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.

Kaya Scodelario and her husband Ben has one child together. They welcomed their baby boy in November 2016. The couple has been very stingy with details about their baby. The first photos of the baby that Kaya posted online showed only his hand. In addition to avoiding showing the face of their baby, the couple has also not dropped his name.
