In season five of AMC’s drama Breaking Bad, Laura Fraser cemented her position among thespians who possess that special skill to interpret any role they are given. Her accent as Lydia on the show was so potent that most people, including some of her costars, didn’t realize she is not an American. Although she joined the series towards the end, she later confessed that she had a great time with her character.

In addition to Breaking Bad, Laura Fraser takes credit for several other roles in both films and TV with Neverwhere, A Knight’s Tale, and Lip Service as the standouts.

The Scottish screen sensation was born on 24th July 1976, in Glasgow. Her mother Rose, is a nurse who later became a college lecturer while her father is identified as Alister Fraser, a screenwriter, and businessman.

Laura has three siblings; an older brother and two younger ones – a brother and sister. Her family is of English, Scottish, Icelandic, Scandinavian, and Irish ancestry and, she holds a British and Scottish nationality.

Her academic records can be traced to Hillhead High School. She also honed her performing skills at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and used to be a member of the Scottish Youth Theatre.

Career Achievements

Spanning over two decades, Laura Fraser’s acting career has been nothing short of fulfilling. Since her professional debut in 1995, the Scottish actress has appeared in over thirty films and even more than that has been recorded in her television credits. Likewise, she has received commensurate recognition from awarding bodies.

In 2013, Screen Actors Guild Awards nominated her in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category. The next year, 2014, she won the award in the same category for her performance in Breaking Bad. She previously landed a BAFTA Scotland Award in the category of Best Actress in a Scottish Film for her role in The Flying Scotsman (2006).

Her last major award win was at the 2017 BAFTA Scotland Award. She picked up the accolade for Best Actress – Television, thanks to her role in The Missing (2016).

Laura Fraser had her first taste of the performing arts when her father wrote a play for the youth club in her school and she played the female lead. She made her professional debut in 1995 on the set of a short film titled Good Day for the Bad Guys. More film roles came her way after that, including as Joanne Macgowan in Small Fences (1996).

In 1998, Laura appeared in four films – Left Luggage as Chaya Silberschmidt, The Man in the Iron Mask as Bedroom Beaut, Cousin Bette as Mariette, and Divorcing Jack as Margaret. She then portrayed four more characters in 1999 on the set of Virtual Sexuality as Justine Alice Parker, Whatever Happened to Harold Smith? as Joanna Robinson, Titus as Lavinia and A Christmas Carol as Belle.
