The earth was blessed with the birth of Laura Leggett Linney on the 5th of February 1964 in Manhattan, New York to parents Miriam Anderson “Ann” Perse (née Leggett) and Romulus Zachariah Linney IV who had no idea that they had created a superstar. Her mother worked as a nurse at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Linney got her love for theater from her father who was a playwright and novelist but passed away following a bout with lung cancer at his home in Germantown, New York in 2011 at the age of 80.
Laura’s parents got divorced when she was just 6 months old and her mom would come to raise her in a small one-bedroom apartment. From her father’s second marriage, Laura has a half-sister named, Susan.
Laura attended Northfield Mount Hermon School, an elite preparatory school in New England. She graduated in 1982 after which she proceeded to Northwestern University to study acting. However, Laura earned her theater degree from Brown University where she had transferred. At Brown, she performed one of the plays written by her father. In 1986, the same year she graduated from Brown, Laura enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City where she completed her graduate program in 1990 and was roommates with fellow actress Jeanne Tripplehorn who is best known for her roles in Basic Instinct and The Firm.
Fresh off grad school, Laura Linney began acting professionally. She was an understudy for the role of Tess in the New York stage production of Six Degrees of Separation. She later played the role both in Broadway and off-Broadway productions
Laura had her film debut in Lorenzo’s Oil where she played a young teacher. The following year, she impressed greatly in Dave (1993) where she played a White House press secretary who has an affair with Mr. President. While building a reputation on the big screen, Laura simultaneously worked on the small screen. She earned her first lead role in TV in the miniseries, Tales of the City.

The couple separated in 1998 before their divorce was finalized in 2000, however, the public only got to know of their split in the year 2001. They had no kids together. In the same year that her divorce was finalized, David began a relationship with actress Corinna May.
While David found love again very early, Laura’s came much later in 2004 when she met real estate agent and Marc Schauer who would become her future husband. Marc hails from Telluride, Colorado. They became engaged in 2007 and two years later in May 2009, they got married. On her wedding day, Northern Ireland actor walked her down the aisle.
Linney and her husband waited for five years before welcoming their first child, a son they named Bennett Armistead Schauer on the 8th of January 2014. Linney was 50 years old when she gave birth to her first baby. She has always been private about her personal life and fans didn’t get to know of her child until much later. Though she still remains active in the entertainment industry, Linney ensures to time for her child.
She negotiated with the creators of Ozark which is mostly filmed in Atlanta, to let her take 4 days off every 7 to be with her son back in Brooklyn where her family resides. As she told, , she’s doing her best to enjoy the joys of late motherhood.
