American-born actress Marcia Cross has a couple of film credits to her name but has come to be well known for her extensive work on the small screen. Her acting career dates back to the 1980s, however, she became a household name among TV audiences for her role as Dr. Kimberly Shaw in the hit 90s series Melrose Place. More recently, this all-time TV diva has come to be better known for her work as one of the lead stars of the hit series Desperate Housewives for which she received much critical acclaim.

Who Is Marcia Cross?

Marcia Anne Cross was born on March 25, 1962, in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Her mother Janet worked as a school teacher and her father Mark Cross earned his living as a personnel manager. She has 2 siblings; an older sister Susan and a younger sister named Ellen. She has English and Irish ancestry and she was raised a Roman Catholic. Cross had her high school education at Marlborough High School graduating in 1980. After high school, she earned a half-scholarship to study acting at the Juilliard School in New York City and she graduated in 1984. She also bagged a master’s degree in psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles.

Cross marked her screen debut on the daytime soap opera The Edge of Night (1984) followed by a role on another soap opera Another World (1986). Among several guest roles, she also starred as Kate Sanders on the soap opera One Life to Live (1986-87). She marked her feature film debut in the thriller film Bad Influence (1990) starring alongside and afterward, she landed a recurring role in the primetime soap opera Knots Landing (1991-92).

Marcia Cross gained much prominence among TV audiences for her role as Dr. Kimberly Shaw on the hit 90s series Melrose Place (1992-97). All through the 90s and early 2000s, the talented actress recorded several guest roles in various TV series and she also starred in a couple of telefilms. She later landed a regular role as Dr. Linda Abbott on the drama series Everwood (2003-04).

Cross reached a major milestone in 2004 when she landed the career-defining role as Bree Van de Kamp, one of the main characters on the hit comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives (2004–12). Her performance during the 8-season run of the show earned her 3 consecutive Golden Globe Award nominations (2005–2007) as well as one Primetime Emmy Award nomination (2005). Cross also had a recurring role in the three-season long thriller series Quantico (2015–2018).

While Marcia Cross has established herself as the all-round queen of the small screen, she has also recorded a number of film credits in recent times including the comedy flick Just Peck (2009) and ‘s directorial debut Bringing Up Bobby (2011). In 2016, she equally lent her voice to the narrator role on the animated short film All the Way to the Ocean.

 

Relationship with Husband, Kids

Marcia Cross has been married for over a decade to stockbroker Tom Mahoney. After dating for 6 months, the couple tied the knot on June 24, 2006, at San Gabriel’s Church of Our Saviour Episcopal parish in Pasadena, California. After the ceremony, they hosted their guests to a lavish reception at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Pasadena.

She underwent in vitro fertilization shortly after getting married in 2006 and on February 20, 2007, she welcomed fraternal twin daughters, Eden Mahoney and Savannah Mahoney. Cross and her husband Tom have remained quite the ideal couple and their union has been as blissful ever since. According to the actress, her marriage brought much happiness and joy into her life.

Marcia Cross’ husband Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with cancer in early 2009. Thankfully, he overcame the disease after one year of intense chemotherapy regimen. The family had another cancer scare several years later when Cross herself got diagnosed with anal cancer. However, just like with her husband’s case, the actress was able to overcome the disease.
