Though he has risen to fame by his regular appearance in the reality TV show, not much is known about his early life. However, he was born in 1955 to George Lagina and Ann. C Lagina, an engineer, in Kingsford, Michigan, Upper Peninsula. He grew up in Michigan and attended college there also graduating from the Michigan Technology in 1977 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma. Marty is thus an engineer by profession and has been involved in the energy business.

He got interested in law and studied it from 1979, showing high dedication to study, he was awarded Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1982. That same year, he established his own oil and gas exploration company, Terra Energy Ltd.

Marty started his career as a petroleum engineer in Amoco Production Company while he was still a law student before he founded his. However, after 13 years of running his company, he sold it for $58 million dollars to CMS Energy in 1995. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the State Bar of Michigan.

While they were growing up, the Lagina brothers (Rick and Marty) became enthralled by an article published in Readers Digest in January 1965 issue. What was the article about? The article featured the Restall family’s work to investigate the mystery of Oak Island. Their interest in the island was birthed and many years later they would obtain a controlling interest in Oak Island Tours.

Marty Lagina and were approached by the Prometheus entertainment which led to the birth of the reality show, The Curse of Oak Island which shot them into the limelight. The show focuses on the efforts of the brothers to unravel the mystery of the Oak Island off the coast of Nova Scotia and discover its hidden treasure. They do this by employing the use of global experts and advanced technology. The twosome, however, teamed up with the father and son duo of Dan and Dave Blankenship, the permanent residents of the “Money Pit”.

The show documents the history of the island, the discoveries made when searching the island and the attempts to solve the mystery therein. The Curse of Oak Island premiered on January 5, 2014, and as of March 2018, the fifth season has ended.

What does He Do For a Living?

We may know him well as a regular appearance on the reality TV series, but what we may not know is that there was a man before the co-producer of Curse of Oak Island and a man after him. Marty Lagina studied for a degree in Engineering and practised in the field as a mechanical engineer who is well versed in the engine business too.

Apart from being an engineer and a reality TV star, Marty is an expert when it comes to winemaking, a business he has a great passion for. He has family ties to one of Italy’s best wine growing area and is involved in making world-class red wine in his wine industry, Villa Mari situated in Michigan. Marty has a simple vision for his Mari Vineyards which is, world-class red wines, made locally in northern Michigan but with a nod to the Italian style of his ancestors. Beautiful, you would say.

 

His leadership apart from his vision guide the most important decisions at the vineyard. Be it the grapes to plant or the architecture of the tasting room and winery, he ensures his dream is not watered down.

He formed another company named Heritage Sustainable which specializes in wind turbines and was previously the chairman of Michigan Oil and Gas Association. Through his company, he is projecting to make sixty turbines in Missaukee region which will push him forward as Michigan’s largest wind energy producer.

Marty comes from a family and has a family of his own as well. He has an elder brother, Rick whom he shares sisters, Terese and Martina with. The wine maven is a married man and has been for over two decades to his wife, Margeret Olivia Lagina.

Margaret attended Ewing High school Michigan and graduated from the Reuters College. She worked in Wiser Oil Co. of Michigan as a geological engineer and also worked together with her husband in their engineering company.

They have a daughter, Maddie and a son, Alex. Alex who followed the path of his parents to engineering and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He also takes part in the family business of winemaking which has grown to be a very successful venture. Alex’s focus in the business is on the development of the award-winning winery. When he is not working in the winery, he joins his father and uncle, Rick in the treasure hunt Island.
