You may not know this, but Desaulniers is her actual surname, the actress was considerate enough to take on her great grand mother’s maiden name so we mere mortals could have a chance at pronouncing her name. Well, today it’s time to meet the entire Desaulniers clan; from Brie Larson’s mom to her sister.

Brie Larson’s Mom

Her name is Heather Desaulniers and just in case the surname confused you for a second, she is Brie Larson’s mom. Heather is a big influence in Brie’s life, no doubt being raised by a single parent can make you idolize them at some point especially when they have been super supportive as a whole.

Brie was born when both her parents were still together, in Sacramento where they were both chiropractors who shared a practice. When she was just six years old, they divorced and this ended in Heather and her two daughters relocating to Los Angeles to start their new life.

More recently, in her stellar performance in the movie ‘Room’ which earned her an Oscar, Brie channeled her mom in order to nail the heart wrenching part she had to play. Though the actual story started a tad bit on the sad side, she found a way to make it something beautiful and this is how she did it.

‘ I had no toys, and I had like two shirts, a pair of jeans and that was it. But I had my Mom to myself and I remember it being the coolest period of time. I loved it. I really loved it For me, ‘Room’ is an opportunity to relive an aspect of my childhood that I hadn’t put a ton of thought into.’

She added, ‘ It’s such a powerful metaphor for me now, and it trips me out that this movie is the thing that’s given me that experience.’

Brie Larson’s Dad

In most stories there’s the hero and a villain, in this story can you guess who’s the villain? It’s certainly not Brie Larson’s mom, so that award goes to her dad. As the star has not talked to or made contact with him in a little over a decade, it’s a bit evident that he was not exactly the most ‘present’ father out there.

Here is what she told Elle Magazine about her strenuous relationship with her father, ‘ When legally I didn’t have to have visitation with him anymore, I jumped on it. As a kid I tried to understand him and understand the situation. But he didn’t do himself any favors.’

Nevertheless, it seems that the Sacramento based chiropractor takes every opportunity to show that he is still very much on his daughter’s side; In October 2015, Desaulniers shared a video of Larson on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, then the next year in September he congratulated her for winning an award from IMDb.
