When you talk about pretty, ditzy actresses with a lot of comedic chops and a natural goofiness, Mikaela Hoover would certainly come to mind. She made a cameo appearance as Nova Prime’s (Glenn Close) Assistant in Guardians of the Galaxy. Although she has appeared in other films prior to Guardians, the film remains her biggest credit to date.

1. Mikaela Hoover got engaged with the arts from a tender age

The Guardian of the Galaxy actress was born on the 12th day of July 1984 in Colbert, Washington as the first of four siblings. Her parents are Nancy (Mehrizi) and Frank R. Hoover, Jr.

She started taking dance classes at the age of 2. Mikaela starred in school plays and local commercials as a child. When she got to high school, she was a cheerleader and became the captain of her high school dance team. Also, she was on the Debate team as well.

2. She has always wanted to be an actress

As a child, she would reenact the animated musical fantasy film, Little Mermaid for her family and always tackled all of the memorable voices.

Mikaela in an said she can never remember a time when she didn’t want to be an actress. When she was in high school, she already knew she was going to attend college in the centre of the nation’s film and television industry, Los Angeles and that she was going to get a degree in theatre.

Thus, when the time came for her to enter college after high school graduation, she got accepted to Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. From there she started taking part in theatre works, pursuing her career in acting. In 2006, she got her bachelor degree in theatre.

3. She got her first acting role the same year she graduated from college

Mikaela made her acting debut, portraying Cami in a web series, SamHas7Friends in 2006. She hit the limelight after she played a regular role as Madison Westerbrook in the WB.com web series Sorority Forever in 2008. Mikaela has starred in other films which include a recurring role on the ABC show Happy Endings, guest roles on popular sitcoms such as How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Saint George, The League, Zombie Basements, Casanovas and Anger Management.

4. She loves horror films

The Sorority Forever actress is a huge fan of horror films. Her all-time favourite horror film is Scream. She has worked on a short horror film titled Hide and Seek. Being enamoured of the genre, she craves that feeling-scared adrenaline boost. A genuine fan you would agree.

Though she found it interesting and almost unbelievable to work with Glenn Close and John C. Reilly on Guardians of the Galaxy, it was not anything near the feelings she had when she met the mastermind behind Scream. According to her, she backed out and cried after meeting him, Wes Craven.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy was not her first meeting with James Gunn

Mikaela Hoover described her relationship with James Gunn, the director of Guardian of the Stars as a BFF-relationship full of inside jokes and nonstop laughter.

She caught the attention of the director who has been writing, performing and making films since the age of 12 when she couldn’t remember her lines and had to improvise at an audition revealing her natural goofiness. Mikaela credits the improv for bringing about their friendship.

 

She met James when she auditioned for a short film called Humanzee!. Since then, the two have worked together in a number of other works including the film Super, The Sparky and Mikaela Show, and his PG Porn. Though the two have what can be termed a great relationship, she sees working with him as a dream.

6. Mikaela Hoover took Improv class

Mikaela said improv makes things more authentic and gives more energy to her acting skills. It was for this reason that she decided to take Improv class at the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles.
