Bill Dubuque is a screenwriter recognized for his interesting works in The Accountant, The Judge, A Family Man, and most recently, Ozark (in conjunction with Mark Williams). His work on Ozark was so good it earned the team a nomination for the Writers Guild of America Award.

The debut season of Ozark began airing on Netflix with an hour-long episode on the 21st of July 2017. This series was created to not just be a crime drama but also a tutorial of sorts on the issue of money and finance keeping. It was quickly accepted by audiences and several film critics, including Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic which has had nothing but praise to dish out.

Netflix, being the smart giants that they are, seized on this and renewed the drama for a second ten-episode season. Now, fans and lovers look forward to receiving Ozark Season 3 sometime in 2019 as announced on the 10th of October 2018. If you can’t wait, the following are the basic things to know about the third season of the web series.

Ozark Season 3 – Plot and Background Details

This beautiful thriller cum crime drama which originated from the United States of America has truly spread around the globe. Chris Mundy, the American writer credited for co-producing Criminal Minds, also holds the same credit alongside Bill Dubuque, Jason Bateman, and Mark Williams for the production of Ozark.

Media Rights Capital, a production house started by Asif Satchu and Mordecai Wiczyk holds the rights of producing Ozark for Netflix. Also, Aggregate Films, Jason Bateman’s production company, is listed as one of the production companies for the web television series together with Zero Gravity Management, Headhunter Films and Man, Woman & Child Productions. Initial plans had Aggregate Films as its sole producer but others had to be brought in to ease the burden on Jason.

Most of the shooting for Ozark is done in three reservoirs namely; Lake of the Ozarks, Lake Lanier, and Lake Allatoona. The Missouri-based reservoir managed by Ameren Missouri houses a waterfront resort which was designed after the Alhonna Resort for the purpose of this TV drama. A popular shot from this resort is the sign bearing a welcome to the Lake of the Ozarks message. Interestingly, most of the filming thus far was done in Lakes Lanier and Allatoona both located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America.

The Ozark series centers on Marty Byrde, a financial adviser based in Chicago whose business partner gets killed by a drug cartel which happens to be one of their biggest clients. The death penalty came when Bruce, Marty’s partner, stole $8 million from their money-laundering client and was caught. Being a smart man and not wanting to end up dead with his family as well, Marty suggests moving the money laundering scheme to the Lake of Ozarks. He also makes a promise of laundering $500 million in five years for the cartel.

They promptly take him up on the offer, although amending it to suit their desires, and Marty has to uproot his family from their base in Chicago. Somehow, he discovers that his wife, Wendy is having an affair and soon her lover, Sugarwood, is killed by Del, the lord of the money laundering Mexican drug cartel that Marty works for.

The Lake of Ozarks doesn’t turn out to be as easy as he reckoned and Marty is faced with the challenge of finding business outfits to use as fronts for the laundering scheme. Just as he makes the decision to commit suicide so his family can live off his insurance, he discovers a resort and operations begin. Soon, a strip club joins in and he begins making plans to add a church. Marty brought in a pastor (Mason Young) into his crime deals when he tried using his church for money laundering but unbeknownst to both of them, Snell (a local crime lord) was using it as a front for drug trafficking.

Somehow, Mason’s wife and mother to a newborn got killed by Snell and the plot continues to thicken. Marty seems to attract trouble as he moves along in all his ventures. Oh yes, there’s the FBI also looking to pin the murder of his former partner and others on him.

Jonah, Marty’s teenage son, tries to find his stand as he and his sister, Charlotte, find out about their parents’ deeds. Season one closed off on a high suspense-filled note when Del and Snell (the leader of a second cartel Marty was forced to work with) came to an agreement (in form of a casino) and a light begins to appear at the end of Marty’s otherwise dark tunnel. However, Del quenches the light when he ‘jokingly’ calls Snell a redneck but it’s perceived as an insult and he has to pay with his life.

The Byrde’s get caught up in a series of crime, deaths, blackmails, affairs, cheats, and what have you. Season two brings the casino to life which is to serve as both a drug distributing outfit and a money laundering platform while Marty, Wendy, and his kids move away and on with life. Wendy, however, plays an upper hand when she goes behind Marty’s back to establish a direct contact with the cartel. And oh, there’s the seeming budding affair of Marty with Rachel.

Ozark Season 3 is sure to bring more intrigue and drama with each episode. Marty is definitely in for more trouble from the cartel, drug traffickers, and his wife. Also, there are no questions about the season having a new antagonist. With Del’s death in season 1, and Jacob Snell following in season 2, it is pretty obvious that Ozark Season 3 will introduce a new antagonist. But who will it be? Well, considering the fact that Jacob Snell, the heroin kingpin was killed by his wife Darlene, the same woman who offed tough Del for replying her insult with an insult, all eyes are on her.

Meanwhile, we just might see superwoman Wendy serve Marty a divorce paper but will that really affect him when there’s Rachel? Whatever Ozark Season 3 brings, one thing is almost certain, the thrills will revolve around the Byrdes. At the end of the season, will Marty still be alive, who would even still be alive? Does this season come with the happily ever after that Marty so desires? Really, we can only wait and see.

The Cast of Ozark Season 3

Of course, we all know that Jason Bateman is going nowhere, yet. As , his wife on the drama, succinctly put it, Jason is the life of the show with every other cast just fortunate to be made a part of it. Can you really picture Ozark without Marty? Well, in view of the up-and-coming war with the Kansas City mob, an already exciting one with the Ozarkian drug lords and the longest with the Mexican cartel, a future Ozark without him might just be possible but not Ozark season 3.

Laura Leggett Linney, an American actress, singer, and multiple award winner has played the role of Wendy Byrde from season 1 and with the twist of events in season 2, we can bet a month’s wage that she will be in on season 3 as well, can’t we? We will most likely meet her as the woman running the family/show or at most, trying to.

acts as Charlotte Byrde in the web tv series, as the daughter of Marty and Wendy Byrde. She almost committed suicide or so we thought in episode 9 of season 1 when she experienced some kind of hypothermia. Luckily, she gained freedom and left the audience wondering what exactly happened there. Season 2 ended for Charlotte when she came to finally realize that there’s no escaping from family. Hopefully, she just might make this next season all the more fun and dangerous.

The young son of Marty, Jonah Byrde was played by the child actor, Skylar Gaertner, who we hope will have more to offer fans in the next season. Jason is a lover of nature, violence, guns, and just a tinge of crime. Ozark season 3 will definitely bring more out of this character.

The Snells or rather, the husband-murdering Darlene should also be expected in season 3. Darlene (as played by Lisa Emery) will most likely be trying to get back what she lost to the Byrde’s and who else will she have to contend with but Wendy. There’s also the matter of the little baby Zeke taken from Mason Young and his equally late wife. The future is female, right?

Also, the Langmore family are expected as a continuous cast on this crime drama. Ooh, this crime-laden family includes Ruth Langmore (), the daughter of Cade Langmore (Trevor Long). She is also the niece of Russ Langmore (Marc Menchaca) and Boyd Langmore (Christopher James Baker), as well as cousin to Three and Wyatt Langmore. Three is played by Carson Holmes and Wyatt by Charlie Tahan. Anyway, the Langmores who are still alive will most likely help in spicing up the drama in Ozark season 3. Yeah, Cade and Russ ended up dead amidst the violence of season 2.

Fingers are definitely crossed on the casts of Ozark season 3 as we can’t really say what Bill and Mark will hit us with come 2019. The trailer expected in a few months might give us a clue though.
