Patricia Helen Heaton was born on March 4, 1958, in Cleveland. Even though information about her early life is limited, we know that she had her college education at Ohio State University where she bagged a B.A. degree in drama. She moved to New York City in 1980 and there, she studied under drama teacher William Esper. She also formed an acting troupe dubbed “Stage Three” alongside a couple of her fellow students and together, they performed in different cities.

While performing with Stage Three in Los Angeles, Heaton caught the eye of a casting director who ultimately gave her a guest role on the drama series Thirtysomething (1989-91). She also guest-starred in several other TV series from 1989 into the early 1990s. The talented actress landed her first major role as Jill Kurland on the sitcom Room for Two (1992-93) and this was followed by regular roles in other sitcoms like Someone Like Me (1994) and Women of the House (1995).

Patricia Heaton got her career-defining moment in 1996 when she was cast as Debra (née Whelan) Barone, the female lead in the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond (1996–2005). Her brilliant performance during the show’s 9-season run earned her much critical acclaim including two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2000 and 2001 in addition to four other nominations. The talented actress also received multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations including a win in 2003 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Heaton’s mother Patricia (née Hurd) died when the actress was twelve years of age. She has 4 siblings; sisters Sharon, Alice and Frances and a brother named Michael. Just like their father, Michael Heaton also works as a columnist for The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
