Reince Priebus was known for being the 27th chief of staff during President Donald Trump’s tenure. He was born as Reinhold Richard Priebus on the 18th of March 1972 to Father- Richard Priebus and Mother- Dimitra Priebus in Dover, New Jersey.

Reince is a short form of his name, Reinhold. Although born in Dover, New Jersey, Reince Priebus lived with his family in Netcong, New Jersey until he was seven years and moved with his family to Green Bay, Wisconsin. His parents belonged to the working-class group. While his dad worked as a Union electrician, his mum worked as a real estate agent. His mother and father are of a Greek descent and German and English descent respectively.

Education And Politics

Reince Priebus’ interest in politics started early as he volunteered for his first political campaign when he was 16 years old. He attended and graduated from Tremper High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1990 and advanced to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. While there, he majored in English and political science and was also a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He served as the student body president and then graduated in 1994 with a Latin honor- cum laude.

He followed up with his interest in politics and served as clerk for the Wisconsin State Assembly Education Committee after he graduated from the University. Afterwards, Reince decided to study law at the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida. In the process of acquiring his law degree, Reince Priebus worked as a clerk for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He also interned at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in California. Reince further served as the president of the Law school student body. He eventually graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D) degree with a Latin honor in 1998.

Priebus decided to make use of his law degree, so he moved back to Wisconsin to become a member of the state bar. With time, his move to Wisconsin got him to join Wisconsin law firm Michael Best and Frederick LLP. He eventually made partner in the law firm in 2006.

 

Reince Priebus’ Political Career

In 2007, Reince Priebus was the chairman-elect of the Wisconsin Republican Party and till date, he is the youngest person to have held that role. Two years after in 2009, Reince became the great counsel for the Republican National Committee. While serving as the chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, he contributed to leading the party to a victory in the 2010 elections in Wisconsin which had been previously held by the Democratic party. His party was eventually victorious in the State Senate and Assembly. A Republican candidate was eventually elected as Governor. Reince Priebus was also responsible for uniting the Wisconsin Tea Party movement and the mainstream Republican party organization. He then stepped down in 2010 to run for chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Reince Priebus was eventually elected as the chairman of the committee on the 14th of January 2011 after seven rounds of voting. As chairman, his goals were to reduce debt, get the organization’s finances rebuilt and work on improving relationships with major donors and party leaders. He also particularly intended to achieve a strong voter mobilization program. True to his goals, Reince Priebus did raise more than $88 million and helped in reducing RNC’s debt to $11.8 million by the end of 2011. In 2012, the organization had no debt to report as Reince reached out to donors and improved the relationship with them.

Presidency Office

Reince Priebus was known to frequently criticize and other democratic leaders. He served as the chairman of the RNC for three terms which made him the first chairman to lead the committee three consecutive times with the president being from a democratic party.

Before he worked as President first chief of staff, he always criticized Donald Trump publicly which made some of Trump’s advisers to question his loyalty to the president-elect. However, Trump went ahead and announced that Reince would be his chief of staff. He then took office on the 20th of January 2017 and his position involved him taking control over who could and could not enter the oval office.

While working as chief of staff, Reince was accused of violating the White House policy of politically interfering in pending investigations when he requested that the FBI stop the allegations that President Trump associates had contacted Russian intelligence. Anthony Scaramucci, the White House communication director had also accused Reince of being responsible for the leaks from the White House. He did this in a series of tweets which he later deleted.

Resignation

It is speculated that all these accusations led to Reince’s resignation as the chief of staff as he stated he had resigned on the 27th of July 2017. President Trump then announced John Kelly as Reince’s replacement on Twitter. Although Reince resigned on the 27th of July, he was in the White House till the 25th of August working as the special advisor to the President and helping John Kelly settle into the White House with his new role. Reince’s tenure as the chief of staff earned him the shortest tenure in history as the permanent chief of staff.

On leaving the White House, Reince continued with his private practice as the president and chief strategist of the law firm Michael Best and Friedrich LLP. He also signed with the Washington Speakers Bureau to be a speaker. This now takes him out of Washington.

In 2008, in the Milwaukee Business Journal, Reince was named one of the city’s 40 under 40. Being raised in an ancient denomination, the Greek Orthodox church has had his membership his entire life. He enjoys playing the piano occasionally and has won musical competitions occasionally as well.

Sally Sherrow Priebus is Reince Priebus wife, she has been married to Reince since 1999. Sally had first met him in an Illinois church when he was 18 and she was 16. She went with him to prom and they had their first date with a Lincoln day dinner with Reps Henry J. Hyde of Illinois and James F. Sensenbrenner speaking. They broke up after dating for a while and got back together till they eventually tied the knot in 1999. Together with her husband, they have 2 children; a son, Jack and a daughter Grace.

One Anthony Schwartz had once accused Reince of cheating on his wife but eventually apologized for it. The authenticity of the accusation cannot be confirmed.

The couple lives together with their two children in Washington and they all go the Greek Orthodox church. The family attends the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington for mass regularly.
