Sarah Palin is an American Politician, Author and TV personality who was a running mate to Senator John McCain for the 2008 Presidential elections.

Sarah Palin Biography

Born on February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Sarah’s dad Charles was a science teacher while her mother Sally was a school secretary.

As a young lady, Sarah boasted impressive looks and after High School in 1984 she contested and won the Miss Wasilla beauty pageant and was the runner-up in the Miss Alaska contest, earning the title of “Miss Congeniality.”

After graduation from College, Sarah tried out her hands as a sports newscaster and reporter before she finally settled into politics. In 1992, Palin running on the Republican ticket, won a seat on the Wasilla City Council.

Her policies advocated lower taxes, by opposing tax hikes. Four years later, she was elected mayor of Wasilla. She defeated John Stein who was an incumbent and had held office for three straight tenures. During her time as mayor, she slashed property taxes, raised the city sales tax by half of a percent and invested in public safety.

In 2002, Sarah Palin challenged incumbent Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski  for the Republican party nomination, but lost by fewer than 2,000 votes.  In 2006, at the second attempt, Palin won the Republican primary for Governor, defeating the incumbent Murkowski.

Sarah Palin won the general election in November 2006, defeating former Democratic Governor Tony Knowles. With her victory, she etched her name in the history books as the first female governor. She was also the youngest Governor in the history of the State of Alaska.

In the 2008 Presidential race, Senator John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate and was nominated on September 4 at the Republican National Convention. With her nomination, Palin made history as the second woman to run for Vice President on a U.S. major party ticket, and the first Republican female Vice Presidential candidate.

Education

Sarah Palin attended High School at the Wasilla High School. She was a part of the school cross-country running team, basketball team and co-captain of the school team that lifted the 1982 Alaska state championship.

After High School, Sarah’s nomadic College career cut across four different Universities in six years. First, in 1982, she gained admission into the University of Hawaii, Hilo where for undisclosed reasons she spent only a few weeks. Sarah moved to Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu where she spent a semester in the fall of 1982 studying Business Administration.

She moved to North Idaho College, a community college in Coeur d’Alene, for the spring and fall semesters of 1983 where she was a general studies student. In spite of not bagging a Degree here, in 2008, the institution bestowed on Palin the school’s Distinguished Alumni of the Year.

In August 1984, she was on the move again and enrolled at the University of Idaho. Palin returned to the University of Idaho in January 1986 and this time attended for three more semesters; spring 1986, fall 1986, and spring 1987. She finally graduated with a Degree in Journalism and Communications in May 1987.

Sarah is married to Todd Palin. The duo met met back in High School at the Wasilla High School. Their romance blossomed early on and they eloped in August 1988. Todd is an Oil field production supervisor who worked for eighteen years at oil company BP in the North Slope oil fields of Alaska.

Todd is also a commercial fisher man. Mr. Palin is also  a four-time champion of the Tesoro Iron Dog snowmobile racing, the world’s longest snowmobile race.

The couple is blessed with five children Track Charles James, Bristol Sheeran Marie, Willow Bianca Faye; Piper Indy Grace and Trig Paxson Van who lives with Down syndrome. They also have five grandchildren.

In December 2017, the couple’s first son Track attacked and beat up his father Todd in a domestic abuse case. Track, a US Army veteran broke into the family home after he had an earlier disagreement with his father about a truck. He broke in through a window, disarmed his father, physically abused his dad leaving him with head wounds and bruises. Sarah called the police to calm the situation after which Track was taken away and later charged with felony, first-degree burglary and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.

The couple’s daughter Bristol made National headlines when it was announced that she was pregnant out of wedlock. This was in part due to Sarah Palin’s conservative views on birth control and abortion.
