Sian Gibson’s Biography
Sian Gibson was born Sian Foulkes in the town of Mold, Clwyd, England to parents whose names are unknown. Her father was a builder and her mother was a homemaker and she attended a local youth theatre, Theater Clwyd before proceeding to Salford University. The course she studied at the university is also unknown, however, she attended the same university with co-actors, comedians and media personalities like Peter Kay and Steve Edge.
She is one of the few women who practice standup comedy in America’s comedy space. Sian Gibson revealed that her comic influences came from the likes of Rik Mayall, Cannon and Ball, etc, She is also a writer and an impressionist as well as an actress. Between 1997 and 2002, Sian appeared in her first television shows including Comedy Lab and Phoenix Nights. In Phoenix Night, she appeared in the episode Silent Night where she played the daughter of one of the main characters. Also, she appeared in the series Peak Practice in 1997 as Sandra and in The Grand as Florence.
From 1998 to 2000, she portrayed in the series Hollyoaks where she played the role of Tessie Thompson in four episodes. In 1998, she was also seen in the production of the series That Peter Kay Thing as Yvonne, however, in a single scene.
Gibson didn’t land any major role in television series until 2015 when she was cast as the main character in Peter Kay’s Car Share. Prior to this, she took minor roles in various television series like The League of Gentlemen and Emmerdale.
In 2005, she landed another minor role in the television movie Marian, Again as Fiona. Her big break came when she co-wrote and featured in the series Peter Kay’s Care Share. Before being part of this production, Sian was working in a call center in Chester and hadn’t auditioned for any acting roles for over a year. Her university buddy, Peter Kay received a script for the series from Paul Coleman and Tim Red for his opinion. Peter loved the script and asked Sian Gibson if she wanted to work with him on it. She consented and both of them ended up writing the script to fit themselves and the series became a huge success.
The series became the highest-rated new sitcom to premiere on any channel since 2011. Its opening episode was watched by 6.85 million people while another 25 million viewed it on BBC player. The TV sitcom opened doors of acting roles for the Welsh actress. By 2017 she was on the UKTV Gold’s original single comedy-drama Murder on the Blackpool Express which became the highest-rated show ever to air on the channel and has been re-commissioned for a second series.
The sitcom actress was also later guest starred in BBC2’s Inside No 9 and showed up again in The League of Gentlemen (2017), Hospital People (2017) and Death in Paradise (2018). The most recent of her projects is Murder on the Tyne as Gemma in 2018.

Sian Gibson has been nominated for a few awards such as the BAFTA TV Awards for Best Female Performance in Comedy Programme in 2016 and 2018 among other nominations. She has also received awards such as the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Made for Online (2016), TRIC Awards for TV entertainment Programme (2016) and the prestigious BAFTA TV Awards for Best Scripted Comedy in 2016 for her inputs in the production of Peter Kay’s Car Share.
