Sophia was born on the 7th day of September 2002 and she hails from San Diego, California. She isn’t an only child as she has a brother named Vinny Lucia

Sophia Lucia fell in love with dance from the young age of 2 and immediately began taking dance lessons at San Diego Dance Centre in Poway, California. Her cousin Kristen Hibbs who is said to have first introduced her to dance is the owner of the San Diego Dance Centre where she began her dance training. Dance seems to run deep in Sophia’s bloodline. She has an older cousin named Nicole Lucia who is not only a dance lover but owns a dance studio in San Diego called Danceology.

A year worth of training for Lucia was enough to get her ready for competitions and by the age of 3, she began participating in local dance competitions.

Eight years down the line and her talents began to attract attention from many and among those who’d come to be interested were the producers of the reality TV show, . Alongside her mom Jackie Lucia, Sophia made her debut appearance on the show’s third season in 2012. Abby Lee Dance Company which is behind the show had invited her to become a part of a category of the show called “The Replacement Team.”

As she began participating on the show, Sophia Lucia’s talent immediately endeared her to many as she became a favorite. She would go on to be part of the elite team before leaving the show in 2013. Lucia would later reveal that the reason she left the show with her mom was because of her grandad who needed attention due to his failing health.

Her short-lived appearance on the show notwithstanding, Lucia had gained enough exposure to set her entertainment career rolling, serving as a catalyst in her career was the fact that she set a Guinness World Record for most consecutive pirouettes with a total of fifty-five, on the 30th of March 2013.

Other TV Show Appearances

During her time on Dance Moms, Sophia Lucia got to appear on other TV shows and continued after leaving the Lifetime show. She performed at the Live Season Finale of X Factor in 2012, The Ricki Lake Show in 2013, the 2013 Finals of Dancing with the Stars, America’s Got Talent, as well as a guest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2012 – she appeared in Ellen again in 2016.

A lifelong fan of So You Think You Can Dance, Sophia, satisfied her desire of appearing on the show in 2016. In 2013 and again in 2016, Lucia appeared as a guest on Home & Family.

 

Sophia Lucia’s Acting and Music Career

Sophia Lucia has grown comfortable in the spotlight and has dabbled in acting. Her first film appearance was as a dancer in a 2012 episode of the TV series, Shake It Up. She has also had small parts in the TV series; Kirby Buckets (2014) and Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn (2015). Her first major acting role came as Sadie in the Hallmark Channel Christmas film, A Nutcracker Christmas released in 2016. Sophia continues to hunt for more roles and aspires to one day be the lead character in a teen TV series.

Lucia has proven to be a lady of many skills, she has amazing vocals and in 2018 released her first song “Ain’t Gonna Play” which was influenced by her first romantic relationship. Additionally, Sophia Lucia also operates a self-titled YouTube channel. She has equally designed her own line for California Kisses Dance Wear and continues to thrive.
