This American science fiction TV series is the 4th sequel of Star Trek: The Original Series and the 5th series in the Star Trek Franchise. Star Trek Voyager is set in a futuristic universe that sees Earth as a member of a confederate network called the United Federation of Planets. It follows the journey of the USS Voyager, a Starfleet ship trying to find its way home after a long time being stranded at the furthermost side of the milky way. The series was created by Rick Berman, Jeri Taylor, and Michael Miller.

The USS Voyager’s leader, Captain Kathryn and her 150-man crew are battling to get back home no matter what it takes. The ship is powerful and incredibly fast, with the ability to land on any planet’s surface. It is an advanced vessel with synthetic neural networks powering the fleet. However, while attempting to track down and capture a renegade vessel, the ship and the rebellious vessel are pulled into the Delta quadrant thanks to a secret alien technology. Now, they must figure out how to travel a distance of 70,000 light years to get back to earth. The USS Voyager merges with the renegade Marquis vessel and they both began working together during the long and arduous journey back to their own world.

The series is set in a different segment of the universe from the one featured on the regular Star Trek franchise, so there’s a steady influx of characters because of the freedom the distinction allows. Although the journey back to earth is estimated to take about 75 years, the trip is shortened thanks to some lucky jumps through space and time.

Kate Mulgrew as Kathryn Janeway

plays the Starfleet’s commanding officer, Captain Kathryn Janeway. She assumes command of the USS Voyager and is assigned the mission of finding and capturing a Maquis vessel roaming the Badlands. Unfortunately for her, both vessels are sucked into the Delta Quadrant, thousands of light years away from earth. She’s a very good leader who would do everything in her power to protect her crew even if it means destroying their chances of returning to earth.

Robert Beltran as Chakotay

The character Chakotay is played by Robert Beltran, an American actor. He serves as a first officer on Maquis, and later Starfleet after the two fleets were forced to form a merger. He worked in the Starfleet for several years before resigning to fight for his home against those who wanted to see it destroyed.

Roxann Dawson as B’Elanna Torres

Roxann is an American actress, director, writer, and producer who portrays B’Elanna, a chief engineer for Maquis and Starfleet. She is half human and half Klingon, and absolutely brilliant when it comes to repairing and maintaining the ship.

Tim Russ as Tuvok

Timothy Russ is known for playing Principal Franklin on the popular Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly. He portrays Tuvok in Star Trek Voyager. Tuvok is a man who dons many hearts. He serves as a security officer, second officer, and tactical officer of both fleets. He is a Vulcan whose original mission was to infiltrate the ranks of the Maquis and learn all he can about the vessel and relay it back to the federation to enable the USS Voyager to conquer the vessel more easily.

Garrett Wang as Harry Kim

Garrett is an American actor who plays Starfleet operations officer serving aboard the Voyager. He is a fresh graduate from the academy, so naturally, he is really anxious about his new job and tried really hard to please everyone, which leads to dire consequences sometimes.

Robert Duncan McNeill as Tom Paris

This American actor, director, and producer is known for his work on the TV show Chuck. His character in Star Trek Voyager is a medic and helmsman for the Maquis and Starfleet named Tom. He comes from a reputable family and his father served the Starfleet as an admiral. After being dishonorably discharged from the Starfleet, Tom pitched his tent with Maquis, then he was arrested and imprisoned before he joined the Voyager to help capture his old ship and its crew.

Jennifer Lien as Kes

is an American actress now retired but known for portraying Kes – a nurse and botanist. Kes is an Ocampan who comes aboard the Voyager after it is transported to the Delta Quadrant. She has psionic powers. She is Neelix’s lover, and her partner fights hard and long to rescue her after she was captured by the Kazons.

Ethan Phillips as Neelix

Best known for playing Neelix in Star Trek Voyager, Ethan is an American playwright and actor. Neelix is a Talaxian cook, ambassador, and morale officer. He was once a successful merchant until his family is killed during an attack on their world by the Haakonians. He decides to band with the crew aboard the Voyager, parlaying his knowledge of the Delta Quadrant for a position as a member of the fleet. He proves to be very useful, doing all kinds of odd jobs or whatever is needed to help the fleet achieve its mission.

Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine

is an American actress who won several awards for her role as Seven of Nine in Star Trek Voyager. She is an astrometric lab crewman who once served as a Borg drone before being freed by the Voyager. Her parents are famous exobiologists, who were turned into drones alongside her when she was only six.

Robert Picardo as The Doctor

As an American actor, Robert Picardo is known for his role in China Beach as Dr. Dick Richards. He plays the character known as The Doctor, the chief medical officer on the Voyager. He is an emergency medicine for the fleet. Although it was initially intended as a holographic program, due to being run constantly it becomes self-aware and almost human-like which makes for an interesting twist.

Season 2, Episode 21 – “Deadlock”

The Voyager finds a tear in space-time while trying to avoid stepping into enemy-held territories. This rift caused the fleet to duplicate itself, creating further problems as both ships cannot be sustained, so the two Captain Janeway meet to decide which of the Voyagers and its crew must perish. It’s a morally ambiguous episode that raises a lot of important questions.

Season 5, Episode 22 – “Someone to Watch Over Me”

This episode follows The Doctor and Seven of Nine as they try to explore the feelings they’re developing for each other. It is full of layered emotional subtexts. It contemplates the possibility of nonhuman finding love and what that experience might be like or result in.

Season 5, Episode 6 – “Timeless”

The Voyager gets a chance to glimpse the possible future in which it cannot return home and must exist in the edge forever. Things go drastically wrong, the ship crashes and everyone on board dues except for Seven, Kim, Chakotay, and the Doctor. They find the ship fifteen years after the unfortunate accident and they go back in time to save it. If there’s a good way to do time travel, this episode is it.

Season 5, Episode 25; Season 6, Episode 1 – “Equinox 1 & 2”

The Voyager finds another Starfleet ship stranded in the Delta Quadrant. The USS Equinox is like an evil twin version of Voyager. Where the latter tries to maintain peace and high values, the former uses brutality to solve all its problems, even their Hologram Doctor helps the crew murder other lifeforms. It’s a tale of how easily humans can turn to the dark side when desperate.

Season 4, Episode 23 – “Living Witness”

This episode played around history, digging up incidents that happened about 700 years ago. A backup copy of the EMH is found and The Doctor is reactivated after being offline. It is revealed that the Voyager’s journey has been reenacted with history portraying the vessel and its crew as genocidal psychopaths. The episode becomes much more poignant when weighed against society’s long and arduous relationship with revising history to serve all kinds of purposes.

Season 6, Episode 12 – “Blink of an Eye”

The fleet stumbles upon a planet where time passes differently and gets trapped in its orbit. A few seconds for the Voyager was, in reality, a couple of years. The crew struggles in vain to avoid contaminating the culture and beliefs of the people on the planet before they can escape and keep up with their journey.

Season 4, Episode 8 & 9 – “Year of Hell”

Over the course of two episodes, an alien commander comes to be in control of a time-based weapon that he intends to use to change history to suit his ideas and motives. He makes his opposition weaker while strengthening his own people, and the Voyager us caught in the mess. Its resources are running out fast, the vessel is falling apart, and all hope seems lost, so the crew has to imagine the unthinkable and figure out a way to escape before time defeats them.
