Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey is a multi-talented French-Spanish model cum actress, better known for portraying the role of mermaid Syrena in the popular film titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. She also played the role of Sofi in the science fiction film titled I Origins. The stunning actress first stepped into this world on the 26th day of May 1986. She was born Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey in Barcelona, Spain. Her father is Spanish while her mother is a French-American. Astrid has two younger sisters with whom she was raised. Growing up, the actress spent a few years in Barcelona and after her parents’ separation, she relocated to France with her father at the age of 5. There she completed her basic education in a small town called La Rochelle.

During her high school days, Astrid was so talented that she took an active part in drama and plays organized by her school. Although she didn’t consider a career in acting at the time, Astrid later discovered that acting is all she was best at. After concluding her education, she went on to attend a drama school before the inception of her career. Amazingly, Astrid is considered a polyglot for her abilities to speak multiple languages. She is fluent in French, Spanish, Catalan, and English.

Acting Career

Soon after she graduated from the drama school, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey made her first film appearance in 2007 when she appeared in a few episodes of a French TV series titled Sur le fil as well as Divine Emilie. The following year, the actress made her big-screen appearance when she played the role of Suzanne in the movie titled The Sea Wall. In the same year, Astrid also featured in a drama titled Equus and a miniseries Elles et Moi. She also made appearances in movies such as Extase, La Reine Morte, and La Premiere Etoile in 2009; as well as Bruc. El Desafio in 2010.

In search of a more challenging environment, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey joined the American movie industry; thus landing her first gig in the 2011 fantasy film titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. She portrayed the role of mermaid Syrena alongside and Kevin McNally. The movie became a hit in the box office; thus catapulting Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey into the limelight. She equally appeared in La Fille Du Puisatier in the same year.

Her next project was Sex of Angels where she portrayed the role of Carla in 2012. After that, Astrid played the lead role of Juliette Karsenty in the 2013 movie titled Juliette. The charming actress joined the cast of the sci-fi drama film titled I Origins where she played the role of Sofi in the film in 2014. She got her big break in 2015 when she starred in a French-Italian romantic film called Alaska. Her impressive role in the movie was able to fetch the actress a David di Donatello Award nomination for best actress at the 2015 Rome Film Festival. She also portrayed The Mage in the 2017 film titled King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, among others.
