The Flash has never failed in the world of comics as far as speed is concerned, neither has he in the Justice League since he made his debut in 2017. However, he has failed more times than one should allow for the fastest superhero when it comes to The Flash movie which for more than five years now, fans are still waiting.

The first time that the film was announced was in 2014 when Warner Bros. revealed it was bringing the fast comic star to the silver screen as a solo movie by 2018. Since then, a lot has happened and 2018 has come and gone with The Flash still not sighted in the theatres. Here, however, are the new details we have on the film.

What Is The Release Date Of The Flash Movie?

The irony behind The Flash being the fastest man in the world of comics is that his movie is not that fast in coming. As stated, the film was first announced in 2014 to be released in 2018. By 2015, the man behind Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, Seth Grahame-Smith, was contacted to write and direct the work but only a year later, it was revealed that he would no longer direct the film but the script he designed was still going to be used.

In 2017, Justice League hit the theatres bringing together some of the best superheroes including Superman, Batman, , and of course, The Flash.

The initial release date of The Flash Movie which was March 2018, came and passed without words from Warner Bros. but it was revealed that not even a shot was made at the time.

Late in 2018, it became apparent that everything was set for the production of the movie to start in late 2019. If The Flash doesn’t get cold feet again, we may likely see the film released in 2021.

Who Is Directing The Flash Movie?

One of the biggest challenges that WB has had thus far is someone to direct the film. Seth Grahame-Smith was the first person penned to direct the film DCEU movie. But when things did not go well, he was left and Rick Famuyiwa was brought on-board. He directed works such as HBO’s Confirmation and Brown Sugar. But again, only a few months later, he took his leave from the project.

Next, it was Robert Zemeckis, the ace director behind Back to the Future that was rumored to be the front-runner to direct the Flash Movie. However, it later ended on the laps of Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley as the new directors. The two would again leave in a flash because of Creative differences which also cost the movie Famuyiwa.

Andy Muschietti became the next person penned to take over directing the movie and he remains such until there is another twist to the production drama that seems unending.

Cast

As regards the cast of The Flash movie, there are already some names that have been put forward even as the production team seems to be shaky still.

The Flash, Barry Allen will be portrayed by Ezra Miller who made a good show in the Justice League movie. More so, he appeared in Suicide Squad briefly, as well as in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Kiersey Clemons is the next person whose name has been mentioned to play against Miller as the female lead.

Billy Crudup is also another person who made the cast. The Watchmen actor is expected to take the role of Allen’s father.

What We Know So Far About The Flash Movie

  • Plot

The initial idea of the film was for The Flash to return in the past to prevent the murder of his mother after he realized that it was not his father that killed her but rather, Eobards Thawne, an evil speedster. If this sounds familiar, it is because it was supposed to adapt from the Flashpoint in some ways.

As it is, we do not know if the same storyline will be maintained, but then, there is a strong theme of time travel that surrounds the movie.

  • Writers

Just as there have been many directors that have been linked to The Flash Movie, so also there have been more writers than a couple. Those involved include Grahame-Smith, who even after he left, it was reported that his scrip was still being used.

In 2017, Joby Harold who was behind King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was brought in to write the film. Grant Morrison was the next person to try writing the script but after his manuscript was said to have been rejected, it was later revealed that Christina Hodson is now the person considered for the writing job.
