Fast Facts About Twice Members

How It Was Formed

In a bid to create a band that will stand out from the rest, entertainment and record label JYP Entertainment, through Mnet, organised a reality show titled Sixteen in 2015. The show brought together sixteen girls who competed against one another to win a spot in a new girl band which would end up being named Twice.

How the Name Came About

JYP Entertainment’s head Park Jin Young chose the name TWICE as a reflection of his intentions for the band. The band to him would touch people’s hearts twice – through the ears and again through the eyes, hence the name.

Twice’s Unique Style

Living out its name in full measure, the group is peculiar for its outstanding musical approach of dramatic sounds and very colorful videos. With these features, the members’ flashy dressing, hair and make-up, the group has assumed a highly conspicuous space in the world of K-pop. Among other K-pop bands, Twice stands out for its unique and seemingly abstract concept. It is about the only K-pop girl band where each member is identified by a different colour.

Fast Rise to Stardom

After the reality show Sixteen, the group Twice was born and its official website was launched in October 2015. Subsequently, JYPE announced the release of the girls’ first EP The Story Begins. The song, coupled with the single, Ooh AAh marked Twice’s debut in a grand way. Their second EP, Page Two soon followed in April 2016 with hit tracks like the title track, Cheer Up.

Cheer Up’s success was nothing compared to TT, released alongside their third EP Twicecoaster Lane 1 and was a huge success. With over 400 million views, TT became the most-watched YouTube video at the time. The song was heard in all nooks and crannies of Korea and drew the group to a prestigious pedestal in K-Pop.
