Tyreek Hill is arguably one of the fastest players in the National League Football. He made his professional debut in 2016 after being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, a selection that was highly controversial as a result of Hill’s history of domestic abuse which led to his arrest in 2014. Tyreek Hill might have turned a new leaf and done his best to mend his wrongs, however, the stigma of being a woman-beater would perhaps continue to plague him for as long as he plays professional football. Here is what we dug up about the two-time pro-bowl wide receiver.

Tyreek Hill Biography (Age, Education)

Hill was born Tyreek D’Shaun Hill on the 1st of March 1994, in Lauderhill, Florida and raised in by a single mother Virginia Hill in Fort Lauderdale. Hill relocated to Georgia where he began his high school education at Coffee High School. In high school, Hill’s athletic side became immediately apparent. He was most successful in track and field breaking and setting a number of records. Hill’s most successful season in high school came in his junior year in 2012. At the Georgia 5A state meet, Hill won the 100 m and 200 m race.

His 100 m best clocked at 10.19, the second fastest by a junior athlete in the 2012 season. Hill was in 2012 named Track and Field News “High School Athlete of the Year.” In the same year, USA Today named him in their All-American track and field selection.

Following his high school graduation, Tyreek Hill proceeded to Garden City Community College where he continued to run the track and also played football. His footballing skills immediately attracted attention from other schools and Hills committed to Oklahoma State University. Hill was doing well for the team until his domestic violence arrest saw him being kicked out of the team.

Luckily for Hill, he was considered for a spot on the team by the University of West Alabama head coach, Brett Gilliland who of course had initially turned him down after learning of the details of his domestic abuse case. However, he was persuaded otherwise after getting to know Hill personally and reaching out to his former schools for more background check.

With graduation drawing near, Hill’s footballing future looked very uncertain. The domestic violence issue meant that not many teams would be interested in him, however, the Kansas City Chiefs came to his rescue, selecting him in the fifth round (165th overall) in the 2016 NFL draft. Hill’s selection was bound to be a controversial one due to the 2014 domestic abuse case. However, management at the Chiefs cleared the air with an impromptu press conference explaining why they took a chance on Tyreek Hill. They explained that they had done a thorough check on his history including speaking to the prosecutor that handled the case.

His contract inked on May 17, 2016, was a four-year deal worth about $2.6 million with $100,000 guaranteed and a signing bonus of $70,000.

Despite the scandal, Tyreek Hill did well to keep his head in his game and deservingly, he earned a couple of awards including being named in the 2016 Pro Bowl as a return specialist. He made it to the Pro Bowl again in 2017.

Girlfriend

Tyreek Hill may be dating someone else now, but his most popular girlfriend would for a long time remain Crystal Espinal, the one he physically abused while they were dating during his time at Oklahoma State.

As the story goes, Hill and then-20 year old and 8-weeks pregnant Crystal were together in Hill’s apartment when Crystal received a text message that Hill had been hitting on some high school girls. When she confronted Hill with the claims, he threw her phone in the hallway and pushed her out of his room. Scantily-clad, Crystal re-entered the house to get her clothes on and leave but Hill aggressively came at her, strangling her and punching her in the stomach. She pressed charges and Hill plead guilty to all.

Facing at least a year behind bars, Hills was lucky to get away with three years of probation. He was also ordered to take anger management classes, a domestic abuse evaluation as well as a batterer’s program. Tyreek did well not to default on any of the orders. Crystal would later give birth to a baby boy. There seems to be no bad blood between Hill and his ex-girlfriend who in a 2015 Twitter reply to an Oklahoma State fan wrote; “I’m the person he attacked. If I can let go, so can you.”
