Tzuyu is a member of the South Korean based k-pop girl group, . She became a member of the group after qualifying through the reality television show, Sixteen in 2015. Her beauty has not gone unnoticed in Korea, as she was ranked 2nd on a poll conducted by TC Candler”s list of the Top 100 Most Beautiful Faces in 2018. She is also believed to be the most beautiful member of her girl group, TWICE.

How Old Is Tzuyu?

Chou Tzu-yu, popularly known as Tzuyu was born on June 14, 1999, in the Eastern part of Tainan in Taiwan. She was born into an upper-middle-class family as both of her parents were business owners and provided generously for their family. She also has an older brother and a close-knit family of 4. She spent most of her early childhood in Taiwan and had a flair for the performing arts from a very early age.

She had her elementary education in her country of birth and had her high school education at Hanlim Multi Art School, South Korea, graduating in 2019 while performing part-time with her girl group. When she turned 13 years old, she took part in the MUSE Performing Arts Workshop organized in Tainan to learn more about the Arts industry; here, she was discovered by a scout who saw her innate talents and helped her relocate to South Korea later that year to continue her training and artistic development.

She continued learning and training for two more years in Korea and was entered into a very popular reality television show in South Korea called “Sixteen” – where 16 gifted young ladies were pitted against one another in a competition to test their charisma and personality, as well as their singing and dancing skills, with the intention of creating a girl band at the end of the show. At the end of the eventful show, she was named as one of the 9 members of the girl band called TWICE. The group made its debut in October 2015 and released an EP titled “The Story Begins“.

1. What Is Her Net worth?

Tzuyu effectively became a “professional” entertainer in 2015 and in a short time, she has already amassed a net worth of approximately $2 million. This is thanks to her personal endorsement deals outside the group which she bolsters with her earnings from the group.

2. Exit And Subsequent Return To Tthe Sixteen Show

Sixteen ran for only 10 episodes and at some point in the 2015 competition, she was eliminated from the show and her return was announced by the host on the season finale of the show. She was reportedly brought back to the show because she had the highest number of votes cast, and was named as a member of TWICE.

3. How She Got Her Nickname

She was nicknamed “Yoda” by Jihyo , the leader of TWICE, due to similarities she was perceived to have in common with the popular fictional Star Wars Jedi character, Yoda. Just like Yoda, she has large eyes and pointy ears and as she became less sensitive to the nickname, she began wearing Yoda hats and necklaces to fan meetings.

4. Controversy Over Her Nationality

TWICE, as a group, made an appearance on the Korean variety show “My little television” in November 2015; on the show, Tzuyu introduced herself as Taiwanese while waving flags of both Taiwan and Korea. This action did not go down well with several viewers like Huang An, a China-based singer of Taiwanese descent, who accused her of being a pro-independence activist.

This sparked a furor and she was made to apologize for her action, which further sparked more controversies as people in Taiwan felt she didn’t need to apologize and those from China accused her of having a pro-Taiwanese independence opinion while profiting from having a large mainland Chinese audience. The fallout of this controversy led to Chinese television stations barring TWICE from their airwaves, while the Chinese Telecommunications giant, Huawei, ended their endorsement with her. Her agency also suspended all her activities in China and released a video where she read out a written apology about the incident.

5. Tzuyu Is The Maknae Of TWICE

Tzuyu is the youngest member of TWICE based on their ages, but she is definitely not the least talented of the whole bunch. Her height of 5 feet and 7 inches also makes her the tallest member of the group, standing about 4 inches taller than the next tallest member of the group.
