The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix superhero film that has built a legion of followers for itself only a little while after it first dropped in February 2019. The instant success of the web series is thanks to the fact that although it is yet another superhero film, it has a story that is somewhat different from all that fans of such movies had ever seen. When the series ended, it became clear, as a result of the cliffhanger that a season 2 was definitely going to come. Interestingly, Netflix has already announced that the Umbrella Academy Season 2 is already on its way. While not so much has been revealed thus far about the second installment in the series, here is all we know about it.
Umbrella Academy Season 2
For those who have not followed the series from its beginning, the show which is based on the comics and novels of Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, tells the story of kids (43 of them) that were all born in 1989 on the same day. Born to random women who had only a day earlier shown no signs of pregnancy, the kids have abilities and divergent personalities. There is also a fear of a global apocalypse and the kids, raised in dysfunctional homes, may have to find a way of saving the day.
By the end of the first season, some of the kids were on their ways to the past, indicating that there is, indeed, more story to tell in the web series. With that said, it became apparent that we were going to see the Umbrella Academy Season 2.
Going a little faster than our shadows, let’s point out that the show may not stop at the second season because, at the end of the day, there are three volumes in The Umbrella Academy as written by Way and Ba. While the first is Suite, the second and third are Dallas and Hotel Oblivion. This simply means that we may get to even see a third film in the series.
Although it has already been announced that the second season of the highly followed Netflix series is coming, and it is known that work has started in that regard, there is no release date for the second season just yet. However, the greater belief is that it should be released in 2020.
Umbrella Academy Season 2 Cast & Characters
To the big question regarding who is coming back again in the second season to save the world, we are going to meet some interesting characters from the first season, but of course, we will also meet some that are new.
First of all, we do not expect that any of the Hargreeves kids will fail to be in the next season. What this means is that we will see Ellen Page portraying Vanya, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Tom Hopper as Luther, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, and David Castañeda who will maintain his character of Diego. More so, Aidan Gallagher will portray Number 5 and Ben whose role is expected to be more central in the next season will be played by Ethan Hwang.
Also, we may get to see Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the adoptive father of the kids as portrayed by Colm Feore who may appear in flashbacks as well as Grace Hargreeves, their robot mother, portrayed by Jordan Claire Robbins.
As a result of time travel, we may also get to see Mary J Blige, continuing as Cha-Cha who was killed by chunks of falling moon and Cameron Britton (Hazel) who escaped the tragedy. The two assassins may make a return the same as Kate Walsh who played The Handler but was shot earlier by Hazel.
The plot of the second season will build mainly on these characters as it will continue from how Number Five saved his siblings using time-travel and how they try to use the same capabilities to solve the bigger problem of the apocalyptic threat.
As pointed out, while it is certain that there will be the Umbrella Academy season 2 as has been announced, we may also get to see a third season in the series and probably go beyond that. But as for the second season, fans may have to wait for some time to see other things about the second installment such as the trailer, plot, and much more. However it turns out, the bet, at the end of the day is that the second season will be worth it.
