Not many people can be bold enough to abandon an acting career that could pay hundreds of thousands of dollars per episode on the average, for a career in journalism, specifically when they have to start at a low level of general assignment correspondent who earns about $26,000 a year. This was, however, what actress Andrea Thompson did in the early 2000s, after years of acting. Read on to find out more about her acting career and other facts.

Andrea Thompson’s Biography

Andrea Thompson was born Rebecca Andrea Thompson on the 6th of January, 1960 in Daytona, Ohio. Not much is known about her early life and family, as the identity of her parents are not known and it is not clear if she has any siblings.

At around the age of six, Thompson and her parents were said to have left the United States and moved to Australia. It is not clear what part of Australia the family resided and where their daughter went on to receive her education. While the records show that Thompson did indeed attend high school, it is known that she did not complete it as she left at the age of 16. The young lady spent the next couple of years traveling the world before moving to New York City where she began modeling and studying acting at the Strasberg Studio and the Herbert Berghof Studio.

Acting Career

After having studied under actress Uta Hagen, Andrea Thompson kicked off her acting career by taking on voiceover artist roles. She soon later begun taking acting roles, with her first significant appearance in front of the camera being in Wall Street (1987) which featured Micheal Douglas and Charlie Sheen. In 1989, she played the role of Genele Ericson in the final season of the soap opera Falcon Crest, and also appeared in a Season 3 episode of Quantum Leap.

In the early 90s, Thompson appeared in the comedy film Delirious (1991) where she played the role of Nurse Helen Caldwell. She then played telepath Talia Winters in the sci-fi TV series Babylon 5 (1993-1995) before moving on to join the cast of JAG (1995-1996), playing the role of Commander Alison Krennick, an aide to the Judge Advocate General of the Navy and direct supervisor of the show’s lead role of Harmon Rabb. She ended up leaving the show after NBC canceled it, although it was later picked up by CBS.

Andrea Thompson’s next notable role was in the crime drama NYPD Blue where she played the character of Detective Jill Kirkendall. She was on the show for four seasons before leaving in April 2000.

Journalism Career

In 1999, a year prior to her leaving NYPD Blue, Andrea Thompson earned her GED as she worked with the veteran journalist of CBS News Jack Hubbard. She also notably took a writing seminar with KGO-TV’s feature reporter Wayne Freedman. She worked under these journalists to get the necessary skill that she needed to start a career in journalism, which she went on to do with CBS affiliate KRQE in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a general assignment correspondent.

By June 2001, Thompson joined the ranks of CNN Headline News as an evening anchor. The popular news network chose to recruit her in a bid to draw younger viewers but the former actress went on to spend just over a year with them as nude photos and videos of her from her acting days began circulating on the Internet, which caused an embarrassment for CNN. Other sources, however, said it was Thompson who pulled the plug on her journalism career as the long working hours supposedly kept her away from her son.

Andrea Thompson went on to work for Court TV as she hosted Psychic Detectives in 2003, before choosing to return to acting. Her first notable role was a recurring guest appearance on the third season of 24. In 2007, she appeared in an episode of Bones.

Family Life

Between 1987 and 1990, Andrea Thompson was married to talent agent David Guc. Not much is known about Guc other than that he was previously a long time partner of actress and that he was the one who discovered actress Pamela Donnelly.

Following the end of that marriage, Thompson began a relationship with her Babylon 5 co-star, Jerry Doyle. The pair got married in 1995 at a notably short ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, in Baja California Sur. Their marriage, however, lasted shorter than her first one, just two years, as they decided to call it quits in 1997 for unknown reasons. Prior to tying the knot, Thompson and Doyle welcomed a son named Alec Doyle, born in 1992.

Body Measurements

Andrea Thompson stands at a height of 5 feet 9 inches (173 cm) and weighs about 126 lb (57 kg). Her body measurements are 35-24-29 inches with a bra size of 40C and a shoe size of 9 (US). Her other notable features include a pair of blue eyes and blonde hair.
