What Is Emma Thompson’s Age?

Born on April 15, 1959, Emma Thompson’s age doesn’t seem to reflect much on the actress. She was born in Paddington London, which is also where she was brought up by parents who were likewise involved in the world of make-believe; Phyllida Law and Eric Thompson. Beyond having a father who was involved with the theatre and an actress mother, she also has a younger sister who is an actress, Sophia Thompson.

Even though she was surrounded by creative people, she did not get to start acting immediately. She kicked off her career in her 20s, in the early 1980s and by 1987, she was already known for works such as Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War, both of which did not just earn her fame but also got her the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress.

From then on, her career blossomed and today, she is one of the most celebrated actresses in England with many awards, including the Academy Awards, Primetime Emmy Award, BAFTA Awards, as well as Golden Globe Awards. She is also an enigmatic figure who has been involved in activism and a few other things.

Who Was Emma Thompson Married to?

While filming Fortunes of War, the actress met Kenneth Branagh whom she dated until 1989 when they tied the knot and were soon tagged the golden couple by the media. By 1995, their marriage had collapsed as Branagh had started dating Helena Bonham Carter since 1994.

In the same year that her marriage came to an end, Thompson met Greg Wise while working on the film, Sense and Sensibility, for which she would receive more than ten awards, including Oscars for Best Writing. At the time, she was battling depression that came as a result of her failed marriage. She would later reveal that apart from her work, it was Wise that saved her.

The couple would continue dating until 2003 when they got married in Dunoon, Argyll. Older than her husband by seven years, the two have since remained together and very close.

Does She Have Children With Greg Wise?

Although the first marriage of Emma Thompson to Kenneth which lasted between four to five years did not produce any child, her second marriage was blessed with two children. The couple’s daughter, Gaia was born when her mother was almost 40 and because she was conceived through IVF, she is described as a miracle child. More so, Thompson had Gaia without any drugs.

Because her father and an uncle she was close to both died young, the actress had her mind set on contributing to the next generation with big numbers. As a result of this, they would attempt for the next three years to have more kids through IVF but all would come to an end in disappointment.

When things got hard for her, she still goes back to the time she had her daughter and according to her, it has always become a source of immense strength.

At Emma Thompson’s age when she attempted having more children, she confessed she knew it was going to be hard and although it was heartbreaking, she allowed some space to accommodate yet another child that came when she adopted a son, Tindyebwa Agaba who is popular as Tindy.

At the time she met Tindy, he was a boy of 16, a former child soldier from Liberia. He was 9 years old when he lost his father to AIDS and during the Rwandan genocide, his mother and sister disappeared. After he was forced into becoming a child soldier, he later got to flee the African country through an aid agency.

In Britain, life continued to be hard for Tindy who neither had friends nor home and so, he sometimes had to sleep in Trafalgar Square. Fortunately, the Refugee Council came to his aid and when Thompson and Wise heard of his story, they brought him in for Christmas. He became their son afterward.
