On the 4th of November 2008, the political landscape of America was revolutionized. For the first time in the history of the country, a black man became the president of the United States. This man is Barack Hussein Obama. Before he ascended to the position of number one citizen in the country, Barack had gone through the process of being a senator twice. The first time was as a member of the Illinois State Senate. He was a member of the house from 1997 till 2004. By 2005, he ran for a position in the United States Senate as an Illinois Senator. He was a part of the senate for three years before he decided to run for the position of the presidency in the 2008 elections under the umbrella of the Democratic Party.

During the primaries, he ran against a number of people, but Hilary Clinton, who went on to be his Secretary of State, was his major contender. His campaign was predominantly built on bringing change to the American political landscape, which was also a metaphor for the change that the election of a black man will bring to the history of the United States of America. Barack Obama was president for two terms, holding the position from 2009 to 2017 when he was succeeded by Donald Trump.

What Is Obama Doing Now And Since He Left The White House?

Barack Obama has been described as the coolest president that America has ever had, and his actions while he was president are reflective of these sentiments but even as he a former president, he still engages in activities that are considered as cool. The first notable thing that this former president did after he left the White House was embarking on a series of journeys, touring countries in Europe and Asia. He visited French Polynesia, Scotland, Italy, Bali, and many other countries. His travels were a mix of him being on vacation while also conducting business.

Writing is another thing he has taken up now. In 2018, his wife, Michelle Obama released a memoir on her life titled Becoming. It was revealed to the public that both of them had signed book deals as they got closer to the end of their tenure as POTUS and FLOTUS. While Michelle’s book has already been released Barrack’s is slated to be released in 2020.

However, authoring books is not the only writing he does. During his presidency, it was noted that he wrote his speeches himself which was indicative of the talent he had as a writer and in 2018, he signed a deal with Netflix to become a writer and producer for the streaming company. Obama’s contribution to Netflix will also touch on areas that are important to him, such as race, democracy, civil rights and any other subject matters he might want to lend his voice to.

The oratory of Barack Obama, as well as his intelligence, are some of the most notable things about him and this is why he has had several speaking engagements for which he is paid hefty fees. In 2018, he had been asked by John McCain, the man he defeated in the 2008 elections, to speak at his funeral which he did. Performing his civic duties is another activity that Obama continues to do, despite having served in the highest position in the country, in 2017, he was called back to his hometown in Chicago to come perform Jury duty which he attended but was not picked for the jury.

Obama’s Stance On The 2020 Presidential Elections

Barack Obama has chosen to remain silent on the upcoming elections despite the curiosity on what he really thinks about the people who have shown an interest in running for the primaries. It has been speculated that the reason for his silence is because of Joe Biden’s desire to run.

Biden is not only a good friend to the former president but he was his vice president for the eight years he was in office. Joe Biden himself has revealed that he asked the former president not to endorse him, stating that he wanted whoever won the primaries to do so based on the work the said person has done. For now, Barack Obama has not aired his views on the upcoming presidential race.
