As the anticipation of Young Sheldon season 4 intensifies, it is predicted that the show might just survive all trials like its parent show, The Big Bang Theory. The series which is a prequel of the Big Bang hit the screens in 2017 and was received with great awe among viewers especially fans of the previous show. It is believed that Young Sheldon dwells in the glories of the main series and will only gain more viewership and better reviews.

With all the critical acclaim the show had gained, The Big Bang Theory was not going to be missed for a long while; CBS made sure of that. It has been an interesting journey watching Sheldon’s early life as a kid. Viewers cannot get enough of the show and for this singular reason, questions have flooded the internet with regards to another season renewal. But first, this is what Young Sheldon is really about

The Premise of Young Sheldon

The prequel series takes us back to the childhood of Sheldon Cooper (played by Emmy award winner in the parent series). We now see a young version of Sheldon (now played by Iain Armitage) trying to fit into a society he considers weird. Setting in Texas, Sheldon lives with his father George (Lance Barber), his mother Mary () his older brother Georgie () and his twin sister Missy (Raegan Revord). The family is united, but then differences in character and personality make it seem like something’s up with them.

Sheldon is a young and brilliant student in school and always stand out from the rest in many ways – very many ways. Young Sheldon’s father is a high school football coach trying to make an impact with his team. He doesn’t understand why Sheldon is the way he is but tries his best. Georgie his older brother is not as brilliant as Sheldon but still tries to earn the respect of others. But this could be challenged by the fact that he is in the same class as his younger brother.

Sheldon’s mother seems to be the only one who understands him. She knows that her son does not fit in and is very protective of him. This does not always go well with his twin sister Missy; she doesn’t like the idea that he is getting all the attention. She understands why though, but doesn’t hesitate to tell Sheldon the truth when necessary. Then, of course, there is young Sheldon’s -not the regular kind of nana – grandmother, Meemaw. She seems to be in love with her drinks but can never trade her unique grandson for them alcohol.

Reception and Ratings

The kind of reception which the prequel has received overtime was never anticipated. Viewership for the show has exceeded expectations, as it keeps growing by the day. Young Sheldon gained over 14 million viewers in its second season and per ratings, gained a 2.7 in the 18-49 demographic.

According to Hollywood Reporter, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl confesses that Young Sheldon has proven to be a ‘powerful performer for the network’ with regards to audience reception. This goes to show that the network, viewers home and abroad are surely having a good Sheldon experience. And this brings us to the frequently asked question:

Will There Be a Young Sheldon Season 4?

The third season of Young Sheldon premiered on September 24, 2019, on CBS. As expected, it garnered more viewership than anticipated and was greeted with critical acclaim. Not long after the premiere did questions about another season start to roll in. This probably happened because many have forgotten that the show has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Following the massive success of The spin-off prequel, it was renewed for two seasons in February 2019. CBS in February gave a two-season order for the airing of Young Sheldon along with another show produced by Chuck Lorre, Mom. CBS is indeed happy with Lorre’s productions and from the look of things is not ready to breach their contract with him. Who would want to cut ties with such an innovative mind with tremendously successful productions?.

And so for those not in the know, there will be a Young Sheldon season 4 and like you, we’re also excited to see what next Chuck Lorre is up to. Hopefully, the Young Sheldon series will be a marathon like its parent, Big Bang Theory.
