Who are The Shinhwa Members?

As stated earlier, the band is made up of six members, they are:

Eric Mun

Mun Jung-hyuk popularly referred to as Eric Mun is a rapper and leader of the Shinhwa band. He was born on February 16, 1979, in Seoul, South Korea and had his elementary school education at Daechi Elementary school in Seoul. After moving to the USA with his parents at a tender age, Mun attended John Burroughs Middle School in Los Angeles, California, as well as Parks Junior High School and Sunny Hills High School. At the age of 16 Mun moved back to South Korea to pursue a career in music. His musical prowess caught the attention of SM entertainment, leading to him being signed by the label as a trainee. As regards his relationship status, Mun is currently married to his longtime girlfriend Na Hye-mi whom he tied the knot with on July 1, 2017, in a private wedding ceremony.

Lee Min-woo

Clearly a man of parts, Lee Min Woo is a singer who also equals as an actor and businessman. Born on the 28th of July, 1979, Min-woo is the first member of the Shinhwa band to debut as a solo artist; a feat which he achieved in 2003. Arguably the best dancer in the group, Min-woo was scouted while dancing with a group called Dicky Ducky at Jeonju Fine Arts School. As an actor, he has appeared in a couple of movies and TV shows, most notably Nonstop and Nonstop 5.

Shin Hye Sung

Ask any fan of Shinhwa who has got the sweetest voice in the band, and their answer would be Shin Hye. He was born on November 27, 1979, in Seoul, South Korea. Unknown to most people Shin was the first member drafted into Shinhwa following his audition with Brothers entertainment in the USA. His talent at singing has seen him occupy the position as Shinhwa lead vocalist for years.

Jun Jin

Park Choong-Jae, popularly known by his stage name Jun Jin, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and actor. He was born on August 19, 1980. His father was a reputable singer and Songwriter in South Korea who goes by the name of Park Young-Chul. Despite having made his Shinhwa debut as a rapper, Jin has gone on to become more of a singer than a rapper following the Shinhwa members switch from SM entertainment to Good Entertainment. As an actor, he is credited with several roles in movies and TV shows such as Emergency Act, Nonstop 4 and Forbidden Love.

Kim Dong-wan

Kim Dong-wan was born on November 21, 1979, in Seoul, South Korea. As a child Dong-wan was highly interested in acting, leading him to become a regular at school plays to the point most people thought he would pursue a career in acting. Fate however had other plans for him as he was cast during his teens by SM Entertainment, hence, his rise to stardom. When asked which career he would pursue if he had the chance, he simply said “he would have preferred acting to singing” before going on to state his contempt with his current profession.

Lee Sun-ho

Lee Sun-ho often referred to as Andy Lee was born on January 21, 1981. He spent his formative years in Los Angeles where he was raised by his parents who were very decisive in his career. Their biggest decision happens to be their refusal for him to join H.O.T for reasons best known to them. Despite being the least popular among the Shinhwa members, it might interest you to know that Andy was the second person to become a member of of the group after Shin Hye Sung.

How Long Have The Shinhwa Members Been Together?

The group was launched by popular Korean music label SM entertainment on March 24, 1998. That same year Shinhwa released their debut album titled Resolver which underperformed commercially and as a result almost led to their disbandment. Thanks to astute decision making by SM entertainment the band was allowed to carry on and has since attained legendary status as far as K-pop is concerned.

Having been together as a band for 21 years (and counting), Shinhwa is currently the oldest running boy band in K-pop history.
